Later they visit the Galle Face Hotel, an old colonial hotel located on the beautiful beaches near Colombo. Next David and his guide hit the road on the way to the dutch colonial city of Galle, passing through the village of Moratuwa which is known for its woodworking and production of furniture. David and his guide continue driving for over three hours and along the way the pass various villages each known for their special trade, and before arriving at Galle they take a stop at the village called Ambalangoda, which is known for making traditional masks and puppets. Colombo is often referred to as the capital of the country, since Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte is a satellite city of Colombo. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins and a population of 647100. The Colombo Metropolitan Region, defined by the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara, has an estimated population of 5648000, and covers an area of 3694.20 km². As per the Provincial Gross Domestic Product-2010, The Western Province, which includes the cities of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara recorded GDP per capita of USD 3808, the highest recorded GDP per capita for any region in South Asia.
