"LE COMTE ORY" - Rossini's vocally dazzling comedy soars with bel canto sensation Juan Diego Flórez in the title role of this Met premiere production. He vies with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, in the trouser role of Isolier, for the love of the lonely Countess Adèle, sung by soprano Diana Damrau. Bartlett Sher, director of the Met's popular productions of Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Les Contes d'Hoffmann, describes the world of "Le Comte Ory" as, "a place where love is dangerous. People get hurt. That can be very funny and very painful. Rossini captures both—with the most beautiful love music he ever wrote." www.metoperafamily.org For more information about the Metropolitan Opera, please visit us at: www.metopera.org Connect with us! The series of musical excepts from Giachino Rossini's operas, entitled "Master of Belcanto", continues with new uploads and a whole new concept. I decided to do something a bit different for my new upload: a compilation based on a single theme which is featured prominently in all selections. The first theme is love (what else :)?). The compilation is entitled: "Tornami a dir che m'ami". Originally, I had planned a more diverse program which would have included arias as well as duets. But when I saw the size of the content I wanted to upload (the remaining compilation is about two hours long), I decided to do love arias as a separate series. The chosen items include love scenes from the very first to the very last operas by Rossini. We start at "L'occasione fa il ladro" with a simple pastoral duet and finish at the beginning of the second act of "Guillaume Tell" with a romantic grand scena. Such an approach gives us a chance to understand how Rossini's composing style changed with each passing year. The presented excepts are listed below with some notes detailing their characteristics. As the whole compilation is quite large, I'm going to upload everything slowly. 1) «Se non m'inganna il core» for Alberto and Berenice from «L'occasione fa il ladro». www.youtube.com 2) «Quanto e dolce a un'alma amante» for Florville and Sofia from "Il Signor Bruschino". www.youtube.com 3) "L'aura che intorno spiri" for Amenaide and Tancredi from "Tancredi". www.youtube.com 4) "Credete alle ...

François Francœur (1698 - 1787) "Suite de simphonies pour le festin royal de Monseigneur le Comte d'Artois" [Music for the Wedding of the Count d'Artois] (1773) - Suite in G minor: III. Air vif La Simphonie du Marais, Hugo Reyne. * Painting: "La Marchande de mode" (1746), François Boucher (1703-1770) . ** Superintendent of Music for the Kings Chamber and a noted violinist, François Francœur was one of the most high-profile French musicians of the XVIIIth century. Louis XV and his Court pampered this attractive virtuoso who devised the finest, most festive music for the Kings celebrations. In 1773, for the wedding of the Count of Artois, the future Charles X, with Marie-Thérèse of Savoy, he performed his Simphonies which contributed to the "great disorder" (ie feverish atmosphere) noted in his diary by the "Intendant des Menus Plaisirs", in charge of the festivities. Francœurs suites "à la française", by their modernity, paint a fascinating wordless portrait of a period in which revolution seems unthinkable, but in which the French spirit shows itself ready for profound transformation.

The curious legend of the occultist and spy the Comte St Germain and his alchemical tome the Great Holy Trinosophie, featuring the music of Erik Satie's Gnossienne III (himself a Rosicrucian adept). Pictures include plates from the Trinosophie. For Educational purposes only, no copyright infringement intended. There are five different thesis of who he was (by law of course :) ) 1) The Hermetic Thesis : He was who he said he was, an Alchemist who discovered the secret elixir of immortality and initiated Cagliostro (though it was possibly the other ...way around, he also claimed to have taught Mesmer mesmerism, which was certainly false). The Trinosophie is very Cagliostro in at least one image (below) and its authorship is contested. Few believed the Comte's claims in his lifetime. www.trinosophie.info 2) The Gnostic Thesis : He was a Gnostic supernatural being, or rather a man who became one (like Enoch, Elijah, John the Baptist etc) who opposed the Church. A view adopted by Theosophists, who regard him as a Western Bodhisattva or Ascended Master / Secret Chief who heralds the Aqaurian Age. He made no claims of this in his life though. 3) The Satanic Thesis : He was an Anti-Christ figure in opposition to the Church, or a man who became one, most popularly as an immortal vampire (via his descent from the Transylvanian prince, Madame Bathori and Vlad Dracula). One origin of the Count Dracula myth. But there if no evidence of vampirism in his life. 4) The Dr Who Thesis : He ...
