Yannick Aellen -- The catwalk crooner On August 6th, 2010, "Dark Crooning", an electro pop EP (3 tracks) will be released as the first in a series of four from Yannick Aellen on DSQT. Released at long last, "Dark Crooning" is the culmination of Yannick Aellen's many years of creative collaboration with producer Christoph Varga, aka seiith. Made between Liverpool, London, Zurich and Berlin, this first EP contains rather dark, electronic pop songs. "The devil (is a woman I never slept with)", which is vaguely reminiscent of Depeche Mode, has already become the catwalk song and favourite of Berlin fashion label Kaviar Gauche. Yannick Aellen's music has long since been a standard for British-Taiwanese label Victim by Mei Hui Liu. Yannick Aellen has already provided management, casting, choreography and creative support for various fashion labels and events (Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Todd Lynn, Stella/Swiss Textiles Award, etc.) as well as for stars such as Rossy de Palma, Vanessa Paradis, Patrick Wolf or Luke Evans. As a singer-songwriter, Aellen has been making music for several years with various respected artists and bands. The cult ballad "Beyond the moon" made with the London-based band Alf is certainly to be mentioned. The male Indian Koel (en.wikipedia.org croons a melodious tune everyday, all over Bangalore. It is an elusive bird that loves its privacy. Folklore will have you believe that spotting an Indian Koel brings a lot of good luck. If that is true, this is your lucky day. Don't just listen to the sounds of the Indian Koel, watch it too, as I painstakingly shoot the bird in all its glory with my Canon S5 IS mounted on a Monfroto tripod somewhere in Bangalore. Realize that the bird was quite far from me. So, I had to shoot it with the Digital Zoom enabled. That should explain the graininess of the video.
Here is the Crooning Troubadour, Nick Lucas singing "All of Me", recorded on a 1932 Durium "Hit of the Week Record". 2nd Song "Good Night Ladies" is also included as part of this late Durium recording. Durium entered the record market in 1930 with its' unique flexible, low cost, records which were sold at Newstands and other such venues for 10 cents, and then 15 cents per record. Many of the great recording stars of the 1920's, who found themselves out of work because the dramatic decline in record sales during the great Depression, came over to record for Hit of the Week. I Durium also promoted and marketed some of these records by including a likeness of the Recording artist on the flip side of the record, as you will see in this case with the "Crooning Troubadour", Mr. Nick Lucas. Lucas made only two records for Hit of the Week in 1932, the same year Durium itself abandoned its' US Record Business.
