The purpose of this video was to demonstrate the comparative speed of shot between the English longbow, and the hand-spanned crossbow. As you can see in the video, the crossbow wasn't as slow to shoot as many people make out, but please keep in mind that the hand-spanned crossbow is a very quick weapon to span and shoot, much quicker that the other types of crossbow in use during the middle ages. Due to the heavy construction of the crossbow's steel prod, or bow, and the short draw length along the crossbow's tiller, the crossbow was a very inefficient weapon. Although the crossbow in the video has a draw weight of around 130 lb, compared to the longbow's 110 lb, our crossbow could only manage a maximum range of some 90 yards, compared to the longbow's 250 yards. To compensate, medieval crossbows were often many times the draw weight of the bow used here, and thus required the use of a belt and hook, Goats Foot or Windlass to draw. This made them much slower than the longbow. Due to this slow re-loading crossbowmen often sheltered behind Pavises, or large shields, while re-loading on an open battlefield. These shortcomings were not an issue, however, when the crossbow was used to defend walled towns or castles, a situation where the crossbow excelled. I noticed that there was no decent tutorial out there for making a paper crossbow that didn't utilize rubber bands. This is what I came up with as a result. The crossbow is actually quite durable in design and should stand up to use for for a very long time so long as it doesn't get wet. Hopefully a good deal of office boredom can be solved with this. The working mechanism for this crossbow is in the arms made of rolled paper and supported by tape. Typically a bent tube of rolled paper would tear when bent, but a layer of tape seems to distribute the load evenly enough to not only prevent the paper from tearing, but also give it a strong and fast spring action when released. This allows for a rigid bow string to be used which utilizes the energy in the arms to propel the projectile - Rather than most toy crossbows which use rigid arms and an elastic band which propels the bolt more like a slingshot than a crossbow. This crossbow can throw a pencil or pen a good 100 feet. A possible modification for even more power might be to make two arms on each side that the bow string would tie together at the tips. Having double arms is about the only way to go about adding more power because adding much more paper to the first set will only result in them tearing or being completely rigid. Gatling guns have been the first firearms with a firing rate close to modern machine guns. Their principle is easy: A set of rotating barrels is turned by cranking a wheel, with one barrel after the other firing a round when it is in shooting position. This makes them technically and legally a repeating gun, not a full auto one - but it is close enough. The Slingshot Channel took the challenge to design a rubber powered version of Mr. Gatling's great invention. And here it is: Eight 20 mm balls, on their way to the target in less than half a second. A new challenge arose from the clouds of the youtube community: Can you shoot a machete with a slingshot? Now a machete is a very heavy weapon, and strong rubber plus a very long draw was called for. This had to be a slingshot crossbow because the rubber had to be so strong that you can not draw it out with one hand. Also the danger of hitting your hand had to be considered. The result is actually pretty impressive: The weapon sent the machete all the way up to the hilt into six layers of very thick cardboard. Try to do that by throwing a machete! No way. The video also shows two very conventional slingshots, both handmade by Jörg Sprave. A The Slingshot Channel production!

Technically they are really just slingshots but they still look like crossbows. Here is my powerful single-shot crossbow and my ungraded chinese repeating crossbow. The single shot crossbow fires the bolt at 85-90 mph with a range of about 270-300 ft. the repeating crossbow fires at a rate of 10 bolt per quater minute with a range of about 130ft. The bolts used for the repeater do not have fins on purpose. The design of the magazine does not allow for them. The bolt use in the sigle shot crossbow is the same as used for the repeater. I made bolts specific for this crossbow after making this film. Those bolts do have fins.

We made it lighter by removing the "stirrup" from the front assembly, and made it more durable by adding the very convenient front bumpers. Then we added three other versions of this revolutionary crossbow and remade the video in HD. Those who could not legally own the TAC 15 because of assault rifle laws (or gun laws in general) in your country can now purchase the TAC 15i (the i stands for integrated). Our engineers took the original design and integrated our own trigger and safety into the crossbow itself. No part of the TAC 15i can be converted into a firearm, making it legal in many places that the TAC 15 is not. Unlike the TAC 15, the TAC 15i does not need an additional lower receiver, as it includes its own trigger, safety, and adjustable stock. This brings us to the other two: the TAC 10 and TAC 10i. Both are a shorter version of the TAC 15 and TAC 15i, making them easier to handle and maneuver in the field. Concerns were brought up about the speed of the TAC 15, which makes it illegal to hunt with in Michigan. So we made sure the TAC 10 and TAC 10i do not break the Michigan speed limit! The Slingshot Channel has presented many slingshot crossbows already, but all have been rather long and narrow. This one is different, as it is following the medieval crossbow design by a great deal. The main differences is that rubber bands are used instead of a steel spring, and heavy lead balls are used as ammo rather than bolts. It is amazing how effective rubber is, with just 48 lbs of draw force , 38 foot pounds of energy are achieved. The 576 gr (36 gramm) lead ball (.75") flies at 177 feet per second. The scientific information we gathered using the thermal heat camera lead to more experiments: What happens if you heat a stretched band, one that already cooled down to room temperature? It regains the power it lost during the cooldown phase. That is right, this video has the proof. Now The Slingshot Channel has to use this critical information in order to build a slingshot crossbow that can heat the stretched rubber with the flick of a switch. The result looks bizarre and very uncenventional, but it does work very well. Three heating films heat up the interior of an encapsulated band box. Using a strong 3300 mAh rechargeable battery, the bands can make the bands about 20 centigrade warmer than the environment, adding (or better, regaining) about 40% energy. This weapon can be left cocked for a long time, and then - minutes before action is expected - be brought to top performance. Two new slingshots are also presented as a bonus. This new weapon is basically a full size version of the pencil shooter presented here in early videos! The dimension of the original have been maxed out to the biggest size that can be operated by one man alone. In the video, you see it compared to the pencil shooter, it's tiny little brother. Gives you an idea about the dimension. Attached to your chest, you can draw it back in a rowing fashion. This allows really high draw weights, impossible with a handheld slingshot. This is the most dangerous and effective weapon ever presented on The Slingshot Channel. 45 kg (100 lbs) of a draw weight means it propels the 115 Gramm (a half pound) aluminum bolt, 15mm (0.59") diameter, with a 12mm (0.47") diameter steel tip to scary speeds. This uses the operator's entire effective arm range! I see no way of making it even more powerful. It weighs about 4 kg (10 lb). The rubber is prestretched from 27 cm to about 90 cm. It is called the "Massacre Master" because that is what it can cause amongst Zombies - ten such monster bolts fired in under 10 seconds, easily. Short reloading time as you have both hands free. Easy aiming thanks to the long barrel. We say with pride that we managed to improve Zhuge Liang's repeating crossbow, and the way we did it would have worked back then (albeit with a normal bow instead of rubber). Can you imagine what a few hundred of these could have done in an ancient battle? A "The Slingshot Channel" production.
