For more of my work visit my website: marcocatena.com Level Back Story: In 1986 following what was almost a global catastrophe the government secretly offered 200 political prisoners amnesty and 1 million dollars each if they agree to help shut down and clean up the damaged nuclear reactor that has turned a once thriving city into a ghost town. They must also in casing the nuclear reactor in concrete to prevent any further contamination or exposure to the city. These prisoners consist of scientists, engineers and labour workers. The latest state of the art personal protective suits and equipment together with full private follow up health care was also promised for the prisoners once the job was complete. However whilst they were working on the nuclear reactor the government army secretly built a huge concrete wall around the infected area to stop anyone from getting in and out of the town, since the government doesn't have any anticipation of releasing these prisoners. Abandoned and stuck in this situation the prisoners were forced to live underground to avoid the patrolling troops and helicopters. The abandoned prisoners eventually discovered that there was no escape from the city and the healthy survivors decided to form a society underground in the hope of one day to leave and seek revenge on the government. For a University Project I was required to modernise a small section of an old game and bring it into the CryEngine 3. This street was inspired from the beginning of Star Wars Dark Forces II on Nar Shadda. Please Excuse the poor camera animations etc, I found cameras and animations very hard to use in the cryEngine compared to Maya. I just wanted to demonstrate that I could put complex Maya scenes into a games engine to benefit from real-time rendering. I was really trying to modernise the tiny part of the level between 0:18 and 0:29 of this video youtu.be (showing walkthrough of JK DF2 Level 1), where you come out of the bar, go up the ramp and turn left. I know its a bit OTT, but if i was designing the game today I would want the player to be 'hit in the face' with the harsh world of a Nar Shadda street the moment they come out of the bar. The Music is Disk Wars from Tron. Not very appropriate, but still a cool track.

Crytek announced the launch of a new update to the SDK of CryENGINE 3, a development platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The CryENGINE 3 SDK now features brand new tools to tap into, including revamped DirectX 11 tessellation, advanced character rendering options, improved AI system and more.

Just a quick level I made in CryEngine 3. This is my first nature level. Normally I do indoor, futuristic environments, but I needed to start doing some nature levels for the planets in my game I am developing. So I am not extremely skilled with vegetation and natural layouts.
