One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Nominated for nine Academy Awards and winner of five, including the top categories of Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. Randle Patrick McMurphy (multi-Oscar winner Jack Nicholson -- "Something's Gotta Give," "As Good As It Gets") is a free-spirited, small-time convict who fakes being crazy so he can get transferred from the state penitentiary to what he thinks will be a more comfortable state mental hospital. But his contagious sense of delightful chaos clashes with the numbing routine of the hospital and the woman in charge of making sure nothing disrupts the sedate mood of the floor, Nurse Ratched (Oscar-winner Louise Fletcher -- "Cruel Intentions," "2 Days in the Valley"). Based on Ken Kesey's acclaimed bestseller. The superb cast also includes Emmy-winner Danny DeVito ("Big Fish," "LA Confidential"), Emmy-winner Christopher Lloyd (the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit") and Brad Dourif (the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Murder in the First"). Kaleidoscope - Cuckoo 1969

Kaleidoscope - Cuckoo 1969 Musicians: DAVID LINDLEY - guitars. fiddle, harp banjo, vocals John Welsh - guitar SOLOMON FELDTHOUSE - guitar, saz, oud, clarinet, voc. Chester Crill - keyboards, violin (from 2nd LP on) CHRIS DARROW - bass, mandolin; Stuart Brotman - bass, voc.(on 3rdLP) PAUL LAGOS, John Vidican - drums ; Ron Johnson - bass; Jeff Kaplan - vocals Guest: Max Buda - harmonica Review Incredible! (1969) was the combo's third album and first to boast contributions from newest members Stuart Brotman (bass/vocals) and Paul Lagos (percussion), flanking David Lindley (guitar/banjo/violin/vocals), Solomon Feldthouse (guitar/oud/clarinet/saz/jumbas/vocals), and Chester Crill (harmonica/violin/organ/vocal). In the absence of Chris Darrow's commanding songwriting, each member projected himself into the material, which adopts a discernible country-rock lilt accompanying Kaleidoscope's established Eastern-informed psychedelia. Nowhere do the two seemingly disparate styles fuse as effortlessly as the upbeat opener, "Lie to Me." Similarly the rural feel of "Let the Good Love Flow" could be easily mistaken for the New Riders of the Purple Sage or Commander Cody, with Lindley pulling off a convincing faux steel guitar lead. On the other side of the spectrum is the funky workout on Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor," as it slithers and slides around Lagos' solid rhythm. The bayou-tinged "Petite Fleur" hearkens to a sound the band explored on the cover of Doug Kershaw's "Louisiana Man ...

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu

FIRSTLY: dont touch the hands of your cuckoo-clock heart. SECONDLY: master your anger. THIRDLY: never, ever fall in love. For if you do, the hour hand will poke through your skin, your bones will shatter, and your heart will break once more. Edinburgh, 1874. Born with a frozen heart, Jack is near death when his mother abandons him to the care of Dr. Madeleine—witch doctor, midwife, protector of orphans—who saves Jack by placing a cuckoo clock in his chest. And it is in her orphanage that Jack grows up among tear-filled flasks, eggs containing memories, and a man with a musical spine. As Jack gets older, Dr. Madeleine warns him that his heart is too fragile for strong emotions: he must never, ever fall in love. And, of course, this is exactly what he does: on his tenth birthday and with head-over-heels abandon. The object of his ardor is Miss Acacia—a bespectacled young street performer with a soul-stirring voice. But now Jacks life is doubly at risk—his heart is in danger and so is his safety after he injures the school bully in a fight for the affections of the beautiful singer. Now begins a journey of escape and pursuit, from Edinburgh to Paris to Miss Acacias home in Andalusia. Mathias Malzieus The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a fantastical, wildly inventive tale of love and heartbreak—by turns poignant and funny—in which Jack finally learns the great joys, and ultimately the greater costs, of owning a fully formed heart. www.randomhouse.com
