Filmed at Goodyear Airport in 2001. Godzilla the plane eating monster chows down happily on an ex American Airlines Dc-10 (very low production number). Consider how many man hours and blood,sweat and tears went into making this enormous aircraft then watch in horror as Godzilla turns it into a gleaming pile of metal within a day ! A sad end to a magnificent aircraft of a bygone era.

Overseas National Airways (ONA) DC-10 Crash during take off at JFK on Nov 12, 1975. All 139 passengers and crew were ONA employees, and, because 'death took a holiday', there were NO fatalities. I'm convinced that it was one of God's Miracles that our lives were spared that day! Cause: Bird strike! (Note: SO much was learned from that crash....how to better certify aircraft engines, better placement of the 'black boxes', escape path lighting, much more emphasis on bird control at airports etc.) Nowadays a typical bird strike will most likely not cause 'rotor imbalance' and the engines will probably stay attached to the wing (as in the case of the US Airways Hudson River landing!)

I hope you like this one. Viewed from Ringway Road my favourite jet flies over, delighting the 20-or-so spectators who were watching arrivals with me. Then, 1hr 15 mins later she fogs up her engines, powers down 24L and roars overhead. What a beautiful and elegant airliner the DC-10 is!

Follow my updates on twitter - twitter.com caffeinatedman.com Note about runway selection - - - The runway that I landed on is usually not used for aircraft of this size because of the length of the runway and the approach glide slope takes the aircraft down a steep hillside that would be possibly dangerous in real world operations. The aircraft appears to be above the glide slope which was indicating by the PAPI lights but it would seem that FS has the glide slope far too shallow for that runway. Thanks to its early arrival, after weeks of late departures I finally managed to get Biman taking off past the Viewing Park on 24R. Nice how the sun came out too, I must say I do love the DC-10 with a passion!

A Federal Express McDonnel Douglas DC-10-10F Crashes at Memphis International this video shows the 2 crew members and 5 passengers who were also pilots evacuating their fire stricken aircraft. Information: The flight touched down at about 12:26 central standard time on runway 36R, and almost immediately the right landing gear collapsed. The plane veered off the right side of the runway, catching fire as it did so. The co-pilot received minor injuries as she evacuated the aircraft, as did one of the five non-revenue FedEx pilots who were on board as passengers. It was later discovered that the non-revenue pilot who activated the slide for the emergency exit had not been adequately trained in its operation, and so accidentally pulled the handle that released the slide as a raft in the event of a landing on water, so that the slide detached from the airplane. en.wikipedia.org
