What's hiding in infrared, make your own infrared camera.

Now now now, what have we here then. See earthfiles for full story. This is a video showing us how to make our own infrared cameras. Just what are they trying to hide from us. I wonder?? Full story Subject: Homeland Security Ban On Infrared Cameras. Date: March 5, 2008 To: earthfiles@earthfiles.com "Hi Linda, I am a photography professor at a major college in the Midwest. Our department recently placed a purchase order for a infrared digital still camera. We were shipped the normal spectrum version of the camera with no explanation. When I called the NYC photo suppliers, I was informed that Homeland Security has placed a ban on the sale of ALL digital still and video cameras with infrared capability! Only law enforcement or other agencies can buy them with approval from the manufacturer. They cannot be shipped, but must be picked up in person. An end user license must be completed in the store. I immediately recalled your recent talk on Coast to Coast AM about there being 'something' in the infrared spectrum our government does not want us to see. Our photo program merely wanted to buy the infrared camera for the interesting landscape photographs IR is capable of recording. You can verify my email by following this link to the Major Photo retailer. Earlier this year, Eastman Kodak suddenly and without warning stopped making infrared film, which had been available for decades. No reason was given, but I now believe this ban came from Homeland Security. Clearly there is ...

DIY Build your own Rapiscan TSA Airport Scanner Part 3 - overcoming brightness

How to see through clothing part 3. This video shows how to overcome bright conditions when using your do it yourself airport scanner device This video addresses one of the problems you might run into when using the film/night vision DIY IR camera method. That problem is how to film in bright sunlight without the video being all washed out and void of any detail. One solution is to use the film canister method, which is really quite simple: 1) Get a hold of a film canister. If you don't have one go to Walmart and ask someone at the photo lab for one. Get one with a black bottom and grey cover. You'll only need the cover. 2) Drill a hole right in the center of the canister cover. You can experiment with the size of the hole, but 1/8 inch seems to work okay. 3) Place the canister cover over the lens of your video camera. This will fit very nicely over most of the slightly older models, and will be good enough on the newer ones. 4) When you look into the viewfinder/lcd display you will notice blackness surrounding a circular area where you are shooting at. Zoom in until there is no longer blackness in the corners. 5) You are now ready to shoot. You will notice that you are able to get much better footage with greater detail and it isn't anywhere near as bright. Stay tuned for our next video which will also address bright light conditions. Thank you. Please 'Like', comment, and SUBSCRIBE! Thank you!

How to see through clothing

CORRECTION: The description originally stated that exposed film was to be used, but you actually have to use blank, developed film. A chemical used in the development process is what gives the film it's visible light filtering capabilities. First off my apologies for the very shoddy camera work and even shoddier narration. Secondly, this is merely my own personal findings after conducting several very unscientific tests using esotericsean's method of turning an ordinary camcorder into one that only lets in infrared light, allowing the operator to 'see through' various objects including clothing. The tests speak for themselves and yes, by using this method you can actually see what people are wearing under their clothing, provided that the clothing is relatively clingy, and is a thin fabric. Dark clothing works the best, but I've also gotten great results with all colors, provided that the fabric is thin and clingy. The method: In case you haven't seen EsotericSean's video tutorial, the method is simple. You take any ordinary video camera with night shot capability, and you take a piece of BLANK, DEVELOPED film and put it over the lens. The film filters out all light other than infrared and the night vision disengages the infrared blocker in the camera. Now, if you want to be a little daring and don't care about using the camera normally ever again you can try removing the IR blocker from the camera entirely, although some people have said that it screws up the focus. So I ...

How to see through clothing part 2 If you enjoy my videos, please subscribe, comment/rate, etc. Thank you. In this installment we set out to see the differences different colors have on the DIY IR Filter, and the experiment couldn't possibly have been more unscientific. Does anyone really care about the scientific validity of my findings? Probably not, but a few will probably bring it up. Anyhow, we bought what we thought were identical tops in different colors, only to later find out that they were actually different fabrics, which totally changed the scope of our experiment and any results that might be garnered from it. Public Laboratory: Make an Infrared Camera

(Note: this is a "near-infrared" camera and does not show heat.) We've been modifying cheap cameras to take near-infrared (IR) photos. Though we cannot perceive it with our eyes the plants and other materials around us reflect wavelengths of light in infrared. Interestingly the sensors in digital camera can react to wavelengths of light in the near infrared. Presently IR light is filtered out from our cameras so that digital images look normal to us. Removing that filter allows us to pick up information in IR. If you want to learn more about it, take a look at our page about this project: publiclaboratory.org and the page about NDVI and NRG analysis using near-infrared images: publiclaboratory.org

DIY: External microphone & battery for the GoPro camera

I came up with this idea after getting only 25 minute recording times using 2 AAA rechargeable batteries. It now uses 4 AA rechargeable batteries. I have tested this setup for at least 85 minutes now and will post an update when the battery runs out. Also, the camera picks up and records audio decently now. It crackles sometimes, but I plan to add in a small microphone windscreen. Hope someone learns something from my very first DIY video. Update: The battery run time was tested to last 7.5 hours. Another thing is that the batteries weigh down the helmet considerably and messes up my neck.

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. Nikon DSLR Bluetooth Controller (Android to Arduino)

This is the second version of my Nikon Bluetooth controller that I've been working on. The project is based around an Arduino and a BlueSmirf Bluetooth tranciever. In the first version, control of the camera was achieved using an IR LED, and emulating the Nikon IR remote. In this second version, the control is through the wired shutter-release/GPS port. The camera I'm using is a Nikon D90, but this same controller would work on all Nikons that have the same shutter release/GPS port as the D90. Additionally, I've read about Canon and Sony DSLRs also having a wired shutter-release port that operates in the same way, you'd just have to find the pin-out of those ports and make your own connector . On the Android side, right now I'm using SENA BTerm as the Bluetooth terminal. This isn't a long term solution, but for now is a proof-of-concept that camera control from the phone is possible. I've got a lot more ideas brewing on this project, and should have some updates on them before too long. Thanks for checking it out!

DIY CCTV

Hi folks bought a couple of "30 LED IR Night CCTV Video Audio Security Camera TP10" from HUYEDAN on EBay. Pleased with the cameras and the seller has great communication and attitude. Thought i'd quickly show you how to set it up. I'm using some cat5 cable that i scabbed out of the university bins, they were literally throwing out hundreds of meters of the stuff (such a waste), the nature of twisted pair means that cat5 is ideal for any sort of signal hence why its used for networking. But in this situation i'm using it for surveillance. You could use one pair for the power, but you have to look out for the voltage drop over long distances, so its best to have one pair for positive and one for negative, that way you half the impedance and thus halve the voltage drop. after that, you have one pair for audio and one for video, you 'could' combine the grounds of the two however, this is twisted pair so don't! -there are some great illustrations of twisted pair on the internet (try searching for RS485), so if your interested please check it out.

Low-cost DIY thermal imaging - liquid crystal paint testing

I am trying to develop a low-cost DIY thermal imaging device. The commercially available thermal imaging cameras still cost well over $1000 because of high production costs and low demand. Many hobbyists would like to have a cheap thermal imaging camera even if performance is not as good as commercial or military units. My goal is to build such a camera. In this video, I am testing one possible approach: Using a very thin projection screen that is painted with thermochromic liquid crystals. These liquid crystals change color in the temperature range 77*F to 86*F. Ideally, the projection screen housing would be heated (or cooled) to 77*F, so that all incident thermal radiation would raise the screen temperature higher than this, and immediately cause a color change.
