"Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" is a song written by Michael Cleveland for R&B--New Wave--dance group Indeep. It features vocals from Reggie and Rose Marie Ramsey, and its protagonists recall how they were bored to death until a DJ played a hot song and saved their lives by giving new energy to the night. The song was released as a single in 1982 and became the most popular and successful hit released by its record label, Sound of New York/Becket Records. In the US "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" reached number ten on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart and number two on the Club Singles chart, and it peaked at number thirteen in the United Kingdom. The track appears as the third track of the namesake album released in 1983.

My (WINNER) entry for DJTT's Ableton contest... I just used the Novation Launchpad in "user 1" mode to control Ableton Live running Mad Zach's drumrack. HardKnock.TV takes you Behind the Scenes into the Beat Junkies studio while Rhettmatic and Buff1 work on their new collaborative album; self titled "Crown Royale". Buff and Rhett start off by explaining how House Shoes, Jackson Perry and Haircut (Aka Mayer Hawthorne) played an integral role in the creation of Crown Royale the group. As the interview continues Buff says that growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan is very different than growing up in Detroit and gives him and Athletic Mic League (his original group) the freedom to craft their music and lyrics without feeling the need to talk about gunplay, what is going on in the streets, etc. Buff continues by saying that Detroit music is a huge influence on what he does and that he learned from Dilla, Slum Village, Proof, D12 and Eminem. Buff concludes the interview by breaking down the meaning behind his classic track "Beat the Speakers up". Buff speaks about how radio programming is brain washing us and how when one hears a song six to seven times a day you can't help but start to know the lyrics. He admits that the underground has a lot of garbage too but that he wishes mainstream radio would have more balance in what type of artists it plays. Tyrone Davis - Born May 4, 1938 in Greenville, Mississippi, Tyrone Davis is considered the "king of romantic Chicago soul". He moved to Chicago in 1959, where he found work as a valet for blues man Freddie King. Eventually, Davis began singing in clubs on the city's West and South Sides, and by 1965 he had signed to the Four Brothers label.. Three years later, Davis moved to producer Carl Davis' Dakar Records and earned his first hit, "Can I Change My Mind," when a local DJ played the B-side of his Dakar debut. The song went to Number One on the R&B charts, and hit the pop Top Five. In the Seventies, he scored other R&B chart-toppers with "Turn Back the Hands of Time" and "Turning Point" before switching to Columbia Records and disco-fying his soul. It was his smooth bedroom ballads like "In The Mood", however, that burned up the charts. Davis went onto record successfully on various labels like Ichiban and Malaco up to his death. He is one of the most imitated soul singers of the modern era.

Tommy James (born Thomas Gregory Jackson, 29 April 1947, Dayton, Ohio) is an American pop-rock musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as leader of the 1960s rock band Tommy James and the Shondell In 1958, when Tom was eleven, his family moved to Niles, Michigan. That year he formed his first unofficial band "The Echoes" with four of his friends from school. In 1959, at the age of twelve, James formed what would be recognized as his first official band "Tom and the Tornadoes". A year later the band changed its name to The Shondells. By 1964, a local DJ at WNIL radio station in Niles formed his own record label, Snap Records. The Shondells were one of the local bands the DJ recorded at WNIL studios. One of the songs was the Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich ditty "Hanky Panky", which they recorded as The Raindrops. The song was a hit locally, but the label had no resources for national promotion and it was soon forgotten. In 1965, a DJ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, found a copy of "Hanky Panky" and played it as a station "exclusive". Listener response was positive, with many wanting to know where they could get a copy of the "new" single. Another DJ started playing the song at local dance parties. Responding to the demand, a local bootlegger taped the song off the radio and began pressing copies of it. Eventual sales of the bootleg were estimated at 80000.
