Depth of Field
I've written a new eBook called "A Concise Introduction to Photography": ethanwilding.com This is the third episode in my "Photography in (under) 90 Seconds" (P90) series. Depth of Field = Range of your photograph that appears to be in focus. You can control this by varying the aperture of you lens. In addition to watching this video, I recommend going out and experimenting with different apertures yourself in order to get a 'feel' for how each aperture setting changes the depth of field in your images. For the beginner, the easiest way to experiment with this is to set your camera to Av (aperture priority). In this mode you set the aperture and your camera will set the appropriate shutter speed to get a good exposure. If you want a shallow depth of field, you will also need a 'fast' lens; ie, one that has a maximum aperture of something like: f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2, or even f/2.8. Lenses of this sort are often very expensive, but each camera maker offers a fast 50mm lens for relatively cheap (compared to other lenses). Good luck.

www.FroKnowsPhoto.com Understanding Depth of Field or DOF when you are starting out can be a little overwhelming. I wanted to break this down and show you side by side examples of what F2.8 looks like compared to F22. It is important to know that changing the focal length of your lens can play a factor in your DOF. Wide angle lenses expand your Depth of Field and Tele-Photo lenses compress it. What this means is its easier to "blow" out the background with a telephoto lens opposed to a supper wide angle. I want you to notice how changing the F stop effects the Shutter speed. I know this is a video about DOF but look what happens to the shutter speed as the F stop goes higher, the speed drops. T-Hex 4 DOF hexapod, short demo
T-Hex is a hexapod with 4 DOF per leg. Mech inspired body design. Running a modified version of the Phoenix V2.0 written by Jeroen Janssen (aka Xan). The onboard program runs on a Basic Atom Pro 28 mcu from Basic Micro. Just a little demo of T-hex moving and walking around. Sorry for the bad video quality from my old mobile phone.
