The Dark Matter & Dark Energy [1/5]

Dark matter are invisible objects that react with matter by gravitational force. Scientists believe that the dark matter is made up of exotic particles like WIMPs(Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). In physical cosmology, dark energy is an exotic form of energy that permeates all of space and tends to increase the rate of expansion of the universe.Dark energy is the most popular way to explain recent observations that the universe appears to be expanding at an accelerating rate. In the standard model of cosmology, dark energy currently accounts for 73% of the total mass-energy of the universe.

Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe

World-renowned astronomer and prize-winning professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, Alex Filippenko, explores some of the mysteries of the universe at a special lecture at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Filippenko discusses observations of very distant exploding starts called super-novae that provide intriguing evidence that the expansion of the universe is now speeding up. Over the largest scales of space, the universe seems to be dominated by a repulsive "dark energy" of unknown origin, stretching the very fabric of space itself faster and faster with time. Dark Energy Rules the Universe

The revolutionary discovery that the expansion of the universe is speeding up, not slowing down from gravity, means that 75 percent of our universe consists of mysterious dark energy. Berkeley Lab theoretical physicist Eric Linder delves into the mystery of dark energy as part of the Science in the Theatre lecture series on Nov. 24, 2008.

Sit Down with Sabin: David Schlegel: Hunting Dark Energy

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory physicist and dark energy hunter David Schlegel chats with Sabin Russell, former San Francisco Chronicle reporter turned Berkeley Lab science writer, June 22, 2011. Their conversation is the first installment of "Sit Down With Sabin," a weekly conversation hosted by Russell. Over the course of five conversations with Berkeley Lab staff this summer, Russell will explore the ups and downs of innovative science — all without the aid of PowerPoint slides. Dark Energy Stifling Structure Growth

For the first time, astronomers have clearly seen the effects of "dark energy" on the most massive collapsed objects in the universe using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. By tracking how dark energy has stifled the growth of galaxy clusters and combining this with previous studies, scientists have obtained the best clues yet about what dark energy is and what the destiny of the universe could be. This work, which took years to complete, is separate from other methods of dark energy research such as supernovas. These new X-ray results provide a crucial independent test of dark energy, long sought by scientists, which depends on how gravity competes with accelerated expansion in the growth of cosmic structures. Techniques based on distance measurements, such as supernova work, do not have this special sensitivity. Scientists think dark energy is a form of repulsive gravity that now dominates the universe, although they have no clear picture of what it actually is. Understanding the nature of dark energy is one of the biggest problems in science. Possibilities include the cosmological constant, which is equivalent to the energy of empty space. Other possibilities include a modification in general relativity on the largest scales, or a more general physical field. To help decide between these options, a new way of looking at dark energy is required. It is accomplished by observing how cosmic acceleration affects the growth of galaxy clusters over time. "This result could be ...

Mysteries of a Dark Universe

DARK ENERGY in Full HD 1080p. Cosmology, the study of the universe as a whole, has been turned on its head by a stunning discovery that the universe is flying apart in all directions at an ever-increasing rate. Is the universe bursting at the seams? Or is nature somehow fooling us? The astronomers whose data revealed this accelerating universe have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. And yet, since 1998, when the discovery was first announced, scientists have struggled to come to grips with a mysterious presence that now appears to control the future of the cosmos: dark energy. On remote mountaintops around the world, major astronomical centers hum along, with state of the art digital sensors, computers, air conditioning, infrastructure, and motors to turn the giant telescopes. Deep in Chile's Atacama desert, the Paranal Observatory is an astronomical Mecca. This facility draws two megawatts of power, enough for around two thousand homes. What astronomers get for all this is photons, tiny mass-less particles of light. They stream in from across time and space by the trillions from nearby sources, down to one or two per second from objects at the edge of the visible universe. In this age of precision astronomy, observers have been studying the properties of these particles, to find clues to how stars live and die, how galaxies form, how black holes grow, and more. But for all we've learned, we are finding out just how much still eludes our grasp, how short our ...

Public Lecture—Dark Energy. What the ...?

Lecture Date: Tuesday, October 30, 2007. What is the Universe made of? This question has been asked as long as humans have been questioning, and astronomers and physicists are finally converging on an answer. The picture which has emerged from numerous complementary observations over the past decade is a surprising one: most of the matter in the Universe isn't visible, and most of the Universe isn't even made of matter. In this talk, I will explain what the rest of this stuff, known as "Dark Energy" is, how it is related to the so-called "Dark Matter", how it impacts the evolution of the Universe, and how we can study the dark universe using observations of light from current and future telescopes. A Theory on Dark Matter and Dark Energy: A Result of the Multi-Dimensional Universe. ver 1.3

This is an idea, a theory about what Dark Matter and Dark Energy could be. The fabric of space is the surface of the multidimensional ocean, with matter "floating" on it. Like ice floating on water, Dark Matter is the unseen portion of regular matter below our fabric of space, that never the less, has a gravitational effect, curving its surface. At the macro scale of galaxies, these effects become apparent and are amplified by the singularities found at the center and throughout the galaxy. The Multi-dimensional universe exerts pressure on the fabric of space, like the inner pressure of a balloon expanding its surface. The fabric of space acts like the surface of an ocean who's depth is the rest of reality. There is a search for Dark Matter, but what if what is found doesn't come close to the amount that appears to be there.. What if we simply misunderstand the structure of matter and the way our multi-dimensional universe is layered.. Ideas must be shared, I just want to give my contribution to the debate. TRUTH - Dark Energy - The Key To The Suppression Of Zero Point Energy

In this video it is revealed that the so called Dark Energy relates what is also known as Zero Point Energy. This is The Key To The Suppression Of Zero Point Energy and how they brain wash our thinking. Listen closely at 58 min. you will hear him say the expansion of the universe is being caused by this zero point energy and that as time went by the Astronomers decided to change their language and call it Dark Energy. He goes on to say that at different conferences he would ask them why are you calling it Dark Energy, there's no such thing, you know it's Zero Point Energy, and they said, well, we wanted to keep it vague. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original title of the video: Zero-Point Energy Extraction from the Quantum Vacuum Talk given by: Tom Valone, Ph.D. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted on Google video in 2006 as below Free Energy - Zero-Point Energy Extraction from the Quantum Vacuum This is Tom Valone's amazing video lecture Zero-Point Energy Extraction from the Quantum Vacuum (2004) where he gives a great overview of the various methods to extract free energy directly from the quantum vacuum to power our homes and machines.
