As a collector of Juggling Acts and Juggler for over 25 years this in MY opinion is one of the Greatest Modern day Ball Juggling Acts and certainly the best in my collection - Everything is right - This performance has a perfect balance of Skill and Presentation and is very understated without relying on the incredibly difficult and complex Body and Dance moves that so many of the Russian performers do - Davison lets his skills do the talking and cements the whole thing together with a nod, a wink and a smile.I think that this is how Juggling should be.....the gold medal goes to PD!!Any performer who does not want to be featured on the 'Marcopirroarchive' should contact me for immediate removal of their Video. The musician of honour in this session was veteran Bill Davison. Wild Bill (William Edward) Davison was born in Defiance, Ohio on the 5th of January 1906. Starting in the early 1920's he began to build his career with various bands including Ben Meroff's Chicago-based orchestra (where he first met guitarist Eddie Condon). For most of the 1930's he was in Milwaukee, billed as "Trumpet King" Davison, and despite a lip injury in 1939 (he was hit in the mouth, appropriately for Milwaukee, by a flying beer mug) had arrived in New York by 1941. There he worked in Nick's saloon and with an Original Dixieland Jazz Band re-creation for the Katherine Dunham show which culminated in his recording 12 sides for the Commodore label a week before his 38th birthday in 1944. He recorded some brilliant sessions with George Brunis indicating he had finally found his own style. In 1945 he joined Eddie Condon's house band, and those long nights and hard musical pace at Condon's club made him a commanding front man, a tough and reliable lead cornetist that Condon could count on; above all an original. Yet another monster classic piece of Northern Soul that we filmed for our documentary "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". Alfie was the protege of classic record producer Reid Whitelaw, and first had a classic early 1970s disco song on RCA called "Who Is Gonna Love Me", which we used to play at Blackpool Mecca. In the mid 1970s. Alfie then released a wonderful piece of retro magic, which, although recorded in the 1970s, was more like the Sixties in style, called "Love Is A Serious Business" on Mercury Records, which is astonishingly rare and hard to find, especially considering that it is on a major label. I have known Reid Whitelaw for many many years, and asked him to find Alfie for me, which he did, and we filmed this in a cold February on the streets of Brooklyn. Alfie had never actually performed this song before, and this is the only time you can ever see him do this classic.
