My favorite deadfall trap due to it's ease of construction and sensitive trigger mechanism. Instead of just a figure four with a Paiute trigger, this is to the best of my knowledge the traditional method of constructing this trap. It can be made even more sensitive by setting the toggle and bait stick "tip to tip".

This is me showing how to make a figure four deadfall trap...This is a great survival trap that can be easily constructed ( with practice ) out of very basic materials that in most environments can be easily found...The trap can also be made with very limited, or primative tools. This trap is a very handy bushcraft skill that must be practiced... In the event you get lost in the wilderness with no immediate rescue, this trap can provide a temporary food source by catching squirrel, catching chipmunk, catching mice, catching rats, catching small rodents, catching birds, and catching small animals, it is also a good trap for pest control. I made the trap with only a small multi tool, a rock, and a small sapling...For bait I used a small amount of peanut butter... Chocolate, cheese, and even tooth paste can be used...I guess you can use what ever you can find when lost in the woods. I set the trap behind a friends house because he was having problems with a pest red squirrel that was causing damage to his property...I recommend never setting any trap without knowing the laws. i know my other 2 videos have been on computer stuff, but i like the outdors too, and i will also be doing videos on all the other kinds of deadfalls that i know of. and on this video was my 5th try setting this trap up so it can be a hard trap to setup but it catches animals so it works.

The dead fall trigger presented here is an experimental variation on the same trigger I use for the Arapuca Bird Trap. I have never used this trigger to trap and need to further refine it to make it more sensitive. It is easy to make and easy to remember. I think this trap would best be applied in a set where the animals body weight would be used to trip the trigger. Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there as an option that could be further explored.
