The King's Speech is a 2010 British historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper and written by David Seidler. Colin Firth plays King George VI who, to overcome his stammer, sees Lionel Logue, an Australian speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush. The two men become friends as they work together, and after his brother Edward VIII abdicates, the new king relies on Logue to help him make a radio broadcast on the day that Britain goes to war with Germany at the beginning of World War II. Seidler, who began researching George VI's life after overcoming his own stammer during his youth, wrote about the men's relationship. Nine weeks before filming, Logue's notebooks were discovered and quotations from them were incorporated into the script. Principal photography took place in London and other locations in Britain, in December 2009 and early January 2010. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2011. The King's Speech was a major box office and critical success. On a budget of £8 million (roughly $15 million), it grossed over $400 million internationally. It was widely praised by critics for its visual style, art direction, and acting. Other commentators discussed the film's misrepresentation of the historical events it portrays, in particular the reversal of Winston Churchill's opposition to abdication. This is our duo interpretation of the piece. If this song sounds familiar, it was used as the orchestral theme for the official soundtrack of "New Moon." The piano version was also on the soundtrack for an episode of CSI. It was in a scene in the lab-- where Grissom was at his desk, sitting and thinking in the dark office while trying to solve a difficult case. This piece is a hybrid of various pieces: it starts with an improvisation of "Hedwig's Theme" by John Williams, continues with an interpretation of the dark "The Deathly Hallows" by Alexandre Desplat, and ends with my take on "A Variation on the Harry Potter Theme" by Francesca Sartori ('franscorch' on YouTube). I shamelessly borrowed, combined, reinterpreted, and repackaged. I am especially grateful to Francesca, whose work inspired me to make this particular interpretation. Starts out as soulful, then descends into dark and angry, then resolves to a magical and peaceful end. The piano voice is a combination of bright grand piano and a rhodes-type electric piano. This is a tribute to one of the best composers of our time, Alexandre Michel Gérard Desplat. His music is inspiring and he is able to display a wide range of compositions for films. These I have selected are the scores are some of the best (but not limited to) of his work since early 2000. I do not think that these are solely the best, but in my opinion, these are the few scores which I have heard from him and impressed me. I wish him luck for the Oscars for his King's Speech OST! PS - I'm not sure about which are the scores that he won BAFTAs for as I can't find all the nominations. This is the most I can find.
