Marlene Dietrich - Falling in love again (1930) Video

In 1929, Dietrich landed the breakthrough role of Lola-Lola, a cabaret singer who causes the downfall of a hitherto respected schoolmaster, in UFA's production, The Blue Angel (1930). The film was directed by Josef von Sternberg, who thereafter took credit for having "discovered" Dietrich. The film is also noteworthy for having introduced Dietrich's signature song "Falling in Love Again".

A very rare footage from Polish television on Marlene Dietrich's arrival to Poland in 1964 (January 18-19). The movie icon visited Warsaw during one of her famous tours, which she organized in 50's, 60's and 70's. In this film she sings "Naughty Lola" and "Falling in Love Again". At the end the audience sings "Sto lat" for her - a song for a birthday. Visit Marlene Dietrich's official website: www.marlene.com

Ton Koopman - Dietrich Buxtehude/ Fuga

Ton Koopman was born in Zwolle in 1944. After a classical education he studied organ, harpsichord and musicology in Amsterdam and was awarded the Prix d'Excellence for both instruments. Almost from the beginning of his musical studies he was fascinated with authentic instruments and a performance style based on sound scholarship. Even before completing his studies he laid the foundations for a career as a conductor of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music and this fascination with the Baroque era led him in 1969, at age 25, to establish his first Baroque orchestra and, in 1979, to found The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra followed in 1993 by the Amsterdam Baroque Choir.

Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau sings Gute Nacht from Winterreise

Well this is the legendary German lieder baritone (or I should say Bari-Tenor since his timbre has both the clarity of a tenor sound and the richly juicy bottom of a baritone sound) Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau singing Gute Nacht from Winterreise by Schubert. This is the version that I edited it using adobe audition in order to make it have better sound quality. The result come out personally think it captures his rich and clear tone even better to another level. The old recording quality does not do a lot of justice to show his fantastic tone which shows how awesome his vocal technique is. He is one of the rare singers I've heard that can sound like early to mid 30's freshness in his late 60's, just feels like his voice had never decline AT ALL. And personally I believe this recording teaches us a lesson that: 1. Sing higher is better = FALSE 2. Sing louder is better = FALSE 3. Singing is about applying the vocal instrument in a song, to make the audience FEEL the story of the text, in an artistic or even poetic way = TRUE Because now there are too many people believe in the stereotype that singing higher is better, or louder is better, that's why the music you hear on the radio right now are all those whiny male singers hitting the "ah ah yeah yeah" in high notes that sound like their balls got ripped off, or female singers that only belt through the whole song in a yelling and scratchy tone that sound like they are crying all day because somebody dumped them or their dads ...

WW2 - SS-General Josef Dietrich

Dietrich, Josef SS-General A Sergeant Major in the First World War and a member of the Nazi Party from 1928, Joseph Dietrich was chosen to form the SS bodyguard that became known as the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. Under Dietrich the Leibstandarte became an elite military unit and by 1940 a full division. The formidable reputation that the Waffen SS was to achieve for courage and resource in adversity was in large part due to Dietrich, who, while lacking the strategic genius of Rommel or Manstein, proved himself tactically adept and an exemplary commander of men. He proved too, to be a man receptive to new ideas. Disdaining the field grey of the Wehrmacht, he outfitted his men with camouflaged combat fatigues, an innovation so novel that the Wehrmacht likened them to tree frogs. Under Dietrich, now a Major General, the Leibstandarte distinguished itself in France and the Balkans. In Greece, Dietrich's SS troops harried the British down through the Monastir Gap and across the Isthmus of Corinth to a hasty evacuation of the Peloponese. For the invasion of Russia Dietrich ordered winter clothing for his troops. He had served on the Eastern Front in the First World War and knew the realities of the Russian climate, but such precautions were not taken by the Wehrmacht, and when Winter came Dietrich's supplies were quite often simply commandeered. In the savage battles of 1942 the Leibstandarte grew to maturity, their reputation for dash and elan in attack further enhanced by ...

Peter Murphy - Marlene Dietrich's Favourite Poem

My mother loved it so she said Sad eyed pearl and drop lips Glancing pierce through writer man Spoke hushed and frailing hips Her old eyes skim in creasing lids A tear falls as she describes Approaching death with a yearning heart With pride and no despise Hot tears flow as she recounts Her favourite worded token Forgive me please for hurting so Don't go away heartbroken no Don't go away heartbroken no Just wise owl tones no velvet lies Crush her velvet call Oh Marlene suffer all the fools Who write you on the wall And hold your tongue about your life Or dead hands will change the plot Will make your loving sound like snakes Like you were never hot Hot tears flow as she recounts Her favourite worded token Forgive me please for hurting so My mother loved it so she said Sad eyed pearl and drop lips yeah Glancing pierce through writer man Spoke hushed and frailing lips yeah Old eyes skim in creasing lids A tear falls as she describes Approaching death with a yearning heart With pride and no despise Hot tears flow as she recounts Her favourite worded token Forgive me please for hurting so
