JS Bach - Sonata for Solo Flute in C major BWV 1033: III. Adagio

Johann Sebastian Bach Sonata for Solo Flute in C major BWV 1033 III. Adagio baroque flute, Janet See The C-major Sonata (BWV 1033) presents many problems. The attribution to "Joh. Seb. Bach" is in the handwriting of CPE Bach (1714- 1788) in the only surviving manuscript, dating from about 1731. It is therefore of great authority since at that point the 17-year-old Carl Philipp Emanuel was still living in the parental home. Most musicians, however, find it hard to believe that the bass line came from the hand writing of the father, limited as it is almost exclusively to root-position chords (especially in the first movement), and lacking any of the distinctive features so characteristic of Bach's own bass lines. Robert Marshall's solution is as brilliant as it is attractive: "Almost all the problems of this composition disappear, as soon as one entertains the possibility that the piece may in fact have been written by JS Bach, but as a composition for unaccompanied flute... The original -- unaccompanied -- sonata itself may have been composed around the same time as the unaccompanied Partita in A minor, and conceived perhaps as a counterpart to it." If this is correct, CPE Bach would have copied it out, adding his own bass line -- as a harmony exercise? -- which would explain why it is in his hand, why he says it is by JS Bach, but why the bass line seems impossible. --- Davitt Moroney

Radiohead - fragment of a new song? (Rio de Janeiro soundcheck)

This very brief segment right here comes right before the band soundchecks "Reckoner" at Praça da Apoteose in Rio de Janeiro (March 20th, 2009). I haven't been able to identify if this belongs to a song by someone else or if it actually is a fragment of a potential new song from Radiohead. Starts off with Thom doodling a figure on his guitar but then the rest of the band follows, distinguishing clearly some Rhodes action from Jonny while Phil drums along. There was also a very distinctive bass line here but you can't tell from the recording (mind you, it's just a Panasonic Lumix pocket camera!). Just felt like sharing this openly after extensive listening. The whole soundcheck was recorded (except "15 Step" as it was time for me to get back in line) and there's only regular songs, in case you were wondering. There was something similar to "MK1" right after "Videotape" but the street noise next to me made the recording completely useless to distinguish that particular bit.

A pure feel-good vocal line rides on top, giving you a clear message: 'Life is ours and we live it our own way!'. OUT NOW!!! Download: Whatpeopleplay: bit.ly Beatport: bit.ly Tracklisting: 01 Stand For Something 02 Reality Maybe 03 You Info: In the last years, Gavin Herlihy has come around quite a bit. The Irish-born had moved from London to Berlin, he was the voice of a well-known podcast radio in Ibiza and now lives in Leeds. Obviously, his residences in London and Berlin have impressed him musically. After his 12" debut "Machine Ate My Homework" on Sasse Lindblad's label Moodmusic in 2006 has come down like a bomb not only in Europe but also in Japan, he attracted attention over the years with releases on Cadenza and Buzzin' Fly and, last not least, he was responsible for the very first Cocoon-10" ("Collect"). So it was time for him to deliver a more comprehensive musical business card on Cocoon. "Reality Maybe" presents Herlihy unfamiliarly housy with compressed percussive funk and an extremely distinctive bass line so that the subwoofer membranes will have a hard job to do. With its organ hook line and the programmatic vocals, "Stand for Something" adds exactly those elements that form a veritable club hit to that perfected modern House sound of the previous track. This is definitely already one of the absolute highlight-tracks on Cocoon this year. Also "You" shows not a trace of weakness, with its plucked bass and the melancholy Jazz elements, and thus meets Herlihy's high quality standards in between futurism and tradition. YES - A Venture [bassline / bass cover]

Unlikely maybe, but there is something of a "hidden gem" about "A Venture". It's a song written by Jon Anderson from The Yes Album that hasn't been played live like all the other songs on that record. The bassline begins very self-contained on the neck pickup, and then begins to come out of the shell until it bursts on a very cool and distinctive blues/pentatonic solo. For that, I assumed the bridge pick-up was used and also thought maybe Chris played it behind the horseshoe. NOTE - for the time being this may be the last clip I upload until YouTube removes this awful audio compression scheme that many of you may have noticed. I searched around for days trying to fix the problem, but sadly this version was the best I could manage, mixing a sine wave of 10Hz. You still hear some noises on both ends of the video and still some YouTube dumb compression that I am not responsible for, aside deciding to upload the video. My apologies to all and still hoping you will enjoy my work. Thank You.

U2 - New Year's Day - piano cover

A great song from U2. It is on their 1983 album War and it was released as the album's lead single in January 1983. The most memorable parts of the song were Adam Clayton's distinctive bassline and The Edge's haunting piano melody. I did my best to make this cover sound as good as possible. I have the sheet music and I made some minor changes to make it sound more interesting. Singing melody is added to chorus but in verses I play the piano line that can be heard in the original recording. So, I guess you can call this somekind of singalong version. :) But anyway, enjoy the video and tell me what you think of it.

African Head Charge - Songs of Praise - Dervish Chant

The distinctive sound is still there; atmospheric synth stabs, percolating percussion, stinging, minimalist guitar lines, sturdy bass lines. AHC has progressed since the heady days of MY LIFE IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND, though. The dense, dark soundscapes of that era are supplanted here by a more celebratory air and an open, spacious feel. Several cuts feature what sounds like children chanting, and there's a more spiritual tone throughout, even reflected in song titles such as "Hymn," "Healing Ceremony," and "Gospel Train." Fear not, Sherwood and company haven't gone new age. The sonic settings are just as exquisitely textured as ever, they've just been given an added depth. Progressive dub producer Adrian Sherwood first made his mark in the early '80s as the man behind the boards for groups like African Head Charge, Creation Rebel, and New Age Steppers. His revolutionary combination of dub reggae with a gritty, forward-looking post-punk aesthetic was a breath of fresh air. A decade later, SONGS OF PRAISE finds African Head Charge and Sherwood still fully capable of innovation. African Head Charge includes: Skip MacDonald (guitar, keyboards); Carlton "Bubbles" Ogilvie (piano); Crocodile, Junior Moses, Martin Frederix (bass); Style Scott (drums); Sunny Akpan (percussion); Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, Prisoner.

(LATIN) My version of the bassline for Gilberto Santa Rosa's "Conciencia"

Hi again. This is my first video with my electric upright bass. The baby bass (as it's also known) has a very distinctive tone and character that can hardly be replicated on the bass guitar (in my opinion). If you want to approximate that kind of tone on your BG, try using flatwound strings and some kind of muting at the bridge, either using the side of your palm or putting something between the strings and the bridge saddles that dampens the vibrations. My apologies for not presenting this new effort in HD quality. When editing the video, I noticed that the HD aspect ratio cropped my plucking hand, and I felt it important to leave it visible (and I wasn't willing to record the whole thing again). BTW, on this instrument I don't pluck the strings with the standard jazz pizzicato technique since each note is preceded by an unpleasant (in this context) "thud" when playing the strings that way. As always, hope you find this new effort both entertaining and useful. Thanks for watching!

!!!Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever!!! Recorded: "Pasadena Civic Auditorium" Pasadena, California (March 25, 1983) Broadcasted by: "NBC" (May 16, 1983) Produced & Sponsored by: Suzanne de Passe for "Motown Records" Record Label: Motown Records. Niceties by: www.youtube.com Synopsis! "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" was a 1983 television special produced by Suzanne de Passe for Motown Records, to commemorate Motown's twenty-fifth year of existence. (Motown was founded in January 1959, meaning that a twenty-fifth anniversary special should have aired in 1984, not 1983. One could argue that Gordy's vision of what would become "Hitsville USA" was conceived in 1958, considering the month of Motown's founding.) The show was also co-written by de Passe along with Ruth Adkins Robinson who would go on to write shows with de Passe for the next 25 years, including the follow up label tributes—through "Motown 40," Buz Kohan was the head writer of the threesome. The program was taped before a live studio audience at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California on March 25, 1983, and broadcast on NBC on May 16. Among its highlights were Michael Jackson's iconic performance of "Billie Jean", a Temptations/Four Tops "battle of the bands", Marvin Gaye's inspired speech about black music history and his memorable performance of "What's Going On", a Jackson 5 reunion, and an abbreviated reunion of Diana Ross & the Supremes, who performed their final #1 hit, "Someday We'll <b>...</b>

Pink Floyd Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 HD

In the album version of The Wall, "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" segues from "The Happiest Days of Our Lives", with Roger Waters' signature scream. The song has strong drums, a well-known bass line and distinctive guitar parts in the background with a smooth, yet edgy guitar solo. The song also features a group of school children for lead vocals in the second verse: as the song ends, the sounds of a school yard are heard, along with the teacher (portrayed as a Scotsman) who continues to lord it over the children's lives by shouting such things as "Wrong! Do it again!" which somehow sounds mocking, and "If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?!", and "You! Yes! You behind the bikesheds! Stand still, laddie!", all of it dissolving into the dull drone of a phone ringing and ending with a deep sigh. Lyrics : We don't need no education We dont need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teachers leave them kids alone Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone! Pink Floyd Let There Be More Light

"Let There Be More Light" is the first song on Pink Floyd's second album A Saucerful of Secrets. It was also released in edited form as the fourth US single by the group. A rare US-only single release (Tower 440) contains edited mono versions of this song and 'Remember A Day'. The single did not chart. Pink Floyd performed the song live from 1968--1969, with it often acting as an encore. The song is written by Roger Waters. It begins with an iterative bass line before the vocals start. The first, gentler vocals are performed by Richard Wright with Roger Waters whispering, the following, harder refrain by David Gilmour. The last two minutes feature for the first time a guitar solo from Gilmour in a Pink Floyd album, featuring his distinctive style of playing single notes treated with effects such as distortion and echo. Lyrics : Far, far, far, far a-way, way People heard him say, say I will find a way, way There will come a day, day Something will return Then at last the mighty ship, Descending on a point of flame Made contact with the human race at Mildenhall Now, now, now Is the time, time, time To be be be aware Carter's father saw it there And knew the Rhull revealed to him The living soul of Hereward the wake Oh, my something in my eye eye Something in the sky sky Waiting there for me The outer lock rolled slowly back The servicemen were heard to sigh For there revealed in flowing robes Was Lucy in the sky Oh, oh did you ever know, know? Rakim's Myspace: www.myspace.com Eric B.'s Myspace: www.myspace.com Get Eric B. & Rakim's Music: www.amazon.com & itunes.apple.com Eric B. & Rakim were a hip-hop duo composed of DJ Eric Barrier and MC Rakim Allah (born William Michael Griffin Jr.). Hailing from Long Island, New York, the pair is generally considered by hip hop enthusiasts to be one of the most influential and innovative groups in the genre. During hip hop's so-called golden age of the mid-1980s to the early 90s, the duo was almost universally regarded as the premier MC/DJ combo in hip hop. The two had a potent chemistry and each represented the height of innovation in their respective roles: Rakim was the master lyricist, an innovative talent who pushed the art of hip hop lyricism to new creative heights with his use of internal rhyme, sophisticated metaphors, and with a methodical-yet-effortless delivery; the duo's beats built on the hard-hitting sound of Run-DMC by adding James Brown samples and Eric B's extensive scratching skills, setting the stage for hip hop's late-1980s/early-1990s infatuation with samples from the Godfather of Soul. Born in 1965, Eric Barrier was born and raised in the Elmhurst area of Queens.
