Karandila Gypsy Brass Orchestra was formed in 1994 and its début performance was at Romfest, in Stara Zagora/Bulgaria, in the same year. The orchestra was named after a place called Karandila (the word is of Turkish origin), which is a beautiful park area near Sliven. The orchestra's source of musical inspiration includes a repertoire of oriental, Arabic and Turkish tunes introduced to Bulgaria by Ottoman military orchestras, as well as Armenian and Karakachani melodies. However, its greatest influence is Balkangypsy and traditional Bulgarian music. The goal of the founder of the orchestra, a popular trumpet player from Sliven, Angel Tichaliev was to revive the spirit of traditional Bulgarian brass bands and at the same time revolutionize the traditional sound by adding a hint of the modern. Here, they interpret an elegic ballad. Composer and civil rights activist Zarko Jovanović wrote "Djelem, djelem" in 1969 after the violent evacuation of a Roma camp, resulting in the death of an infant. Two years later, the song was declared the official anthem of all Roma people. The lyrics go "I too once had a large family, but the black legion murdered them. Come with me, Roma of the world, to where the Romani roads have been opened. Now is the time - stand up, Roma". Lead vocals in this version are taken by Maya, a young Roma girl from the Gypsies' ghetto in the town Sliven, recorded professionally for the first time in her life.

The Gandhi School Choir in Pecs, Hungary singing the Gypsy Hymn. The Gandhi School is a residential high school for Roma (Gypsy) students from Hungary. The International Gypsy Hymn was composed by Jarko Jovanovik from a popular Gypsy song from the Eastern Europe countries. Its lines are inspired on the Gypsies who were confined in Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War. It was officially adopted as their hymn at the First Gypsy Congress, held in London in 1971.
