Droid Razr Review - The Best Android Phone? The engineering brilliance behind the Droid Razr cannot be understated. Packed in just .28-inches of stainless steel and soft-touch Kevlar, the Razr manages to include some truly impressive specs into an amazingly thin frame. Like Motorola's clamshell offering from yesteryear, the Droid Razr is an incredible feat of hardware design that should be the blueprints for future devices. But how does it tie up as a whole? One big question heading into our review was, "Does it live up to the Razr name?" The answer to that is yes, but there are a few caveats, and one of them is a big one. The Motorola Droid Razr is remarkably thin. So thin, in fact, that even after seeing it in pictures, holding it in person is a bit of a shock. Track one down to know what we mean, you'll be surprised too. The thing is, though, the device is by no means small, especially if you have smaller hands. The screen sits at 4.3-inches, but the way the phone was designed to accommodate every component makes it seems clunky. There is a huge bezel that pretty much makes one-handed use next to impossible, and the squared-off edges adds to this illusion. Next to an iPhone 4/iPhone 4S, the thing is massive. Still, consumers with bigger hands may not even notice its size. That aside, the specs packed into the Razr make for a very snappy, smooth experience. To say the Droid RAZR is thin doesn't do it justice. At only 7.1mm thick it's almost unbelievably svelte. Heck, the Galaxy S II, which impressed us with its sleek physique just a few months ago, measures a comparatively beefy 8.49mm. The RAZR does bulge out at the top to about 10.6mm around the 8 megapixel camera, but that's hardly enough to make the handset cumbersome. Besides, the hump is the only place with enough room to house the headphone, HDMI and micro-USB jacks. Along the right side you'll find all of the physical buttons. The textured power key sits roughly an inch above the rather flimsy volume rocker, which has almost no travel. The bottom of the handset is unadorned, but the left edge conceals the Micro SIM and microSD slots under a door that's more than just a little tough to pry open. The RAZR ships with a 16GB card pre-installed, a nice compliment to the 8GB of internal storage. The shell of the phone is a stunning mix of aluminum, Kevlar and Gorilla Glass. So has Motorola succeeded in reclaiming the prestige that once belonged to the RAZR brand? Unequivocally, yes -- the handset is just physically stunning. It's thinner than almost any phone on the market and makes no sacrifices to attain its slim physique. It's solidly constructed from premium materials like diamond-cut aluminum, Gorilla Glass and a sheet of super-slick Kevlar. Few phones out there can even be put in the same category when it comes to build quality. It's not the most ergonomically sound handset on the market, but for those who cherish form over function (the very targets of a so-called fashion device), that's a sacrifice worth making. Don't get us wrong -- the RAZR's beauty is not only skin deep. The LTE radio, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM make sure this sleek number is ready to run with the big boys. It kept pace with, and in some cases clearly outclassed its high-end competition. Despite its deficiencies in the display department and underwhelming battery life, the RAZR looks to be a perfectly viable alternative when considering the similarly-pricey Rezound and Galaxy Nexus, but we'll have to wait for our full reviews of those devices to say for sure. And don't forget: this one will only get better when ICS comes to Moto's slim slab of sexy.

To everyone who rocked a Motorola RAZR in the '00s, it's time to get excited again. The line -- or at least the name -- has been reborn, and not without good reason. This is a thin device -- extremely thin. The Droid RAZR by Motorola is 7.1mm thin, in fact, and holding it up next to the iPhone 4 makes Apple's phone look downright beefy by comparison. At 127 grams, it's also incredibly light, a fact that's quite apparent the first time you hold thing -- we were honestly a bit surprised when it was first dropped in our hands. The company has clearly come a long way from the first generation Droid. Of course, as noted, Motorola didn't skimp on the specs here. The RAZR's got a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB inside, and it does zip through apps with ease. The handset is rocking Android 2.3 Gingerbread -- or at least was during our hands-on. No word on Ice Cream Sandwich -- though we'll no doubt be hearing more about that OS at tonight's event. The 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED display is quite bright, and should do wonders on those Netflix HD videos. Also of note is the phone's relative ruggedness, thanks to its Kevlar backing, diamond cut aluminum and Gorilla Glass, but in spite of these facts, it really doesn't feel or particularly look like a rugged device in your hands, just a big, surprisingly light handset.
