Dune Prologue (Extended Edition)
This is the Prologue for the extended version of Dune (1984). The original from 1984 was directed by David Lynch. This extended version was credited to a certain Allan Smithee, which is a name given to films, if the director doesent want to have anything to do with the film no more. The Extended version of Dune did have certain cool elements, like this prologue. But many places in the film it was certain that they just reused material from a totally different place in the film as filler. As when the leader of the Bene gesserit visits Caladan, you see footage from Paul and Jessicas capture on Dune. Very poorly made. And also when the guild visits the Emperor on his home planet you see footage from ships on Dune. Very poorly made, but most of the rest of the movie is fine.

Production underway on JODOROWSKY'S DUNE It was announced today (May 12, 2011) that LA based Snowfort Pictures, Camera One of France and Koch Media of Germany have begun production on Frank Pavich's sci-fi documentary JODOROWSKY'S DUNE. Shooting has wrapped in France, Switzerland and the UK with filming to continue this summer in the United States. Picture will be completed by late fall. The documentary covers cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky and his 1974 attempt to create a big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal science fiction novel, DUNE. While the ambitious production collapsed after two years, Jodorowsky's team of then relatively unknown concept artists continued exploring the themes and styles started on the project and ended up changing modern science fiction forever: HR Giger went on to Ridley Scott's masterpiece ALIEN, Dan O'Bannon wrote ALIEN and TOTAL RECALL, Jean "Moebius" Giraud created artwork and futuristic worlds for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, TRON, and THE FIFTH ELEMENT and Chris Foss would go on to work on ALIEN and SUPERMAN. One of the most influencial games in my life. By the time (now defunct) Cryo released this piece of videogaming perfection, I had seen David Lynch's Dune movie, wich had a very important part in me actually understanding what was going on. Yet, the game follows the books much more closely then it's movie counterpart, so before I even realised it, I was hooked in much more then the game, I was hooked on Frank Herbert's Dune universe. I must highlight the amazing performance by Stephane Picq and Philip Ulrich in the many versions of the OSt for the game, of wich this Amiga version is my favorite. Simply amazing what he did with MOD files. If you don't have it already, make sure you check the link bellow for "Spice Opera", a remastered edition of the OST simply one of the greatest audio CDs ever made. en.wikipedia.org

No need to introduce Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty. I wonder if there's a single PC gamer (of a sufficient age) who hasn't played Dune 2. I sold my soul and time to it once as well. Looking back at the game, I see a lot of flaws about it (a poor AI, for instance), but in honor of its former glory: the last 10 minutes of the Emperor's reign.
