ESR 2010 (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate Analyzer)

This video shows the design and use of an ESR meter that I built in 2006. I recently used this meter to find some bad electrolytic caps in an LCD monitor I'm working on, and thought it would be a cool project to share.

ESR Meter
This video shows how the ESR IR meter works using a 2S pack. When testing the IR of the entire pack the small sensing leads aren't attached to the balance connector. This will give the IR of the pack through the wires and connectors. If the small sensing leads are attached this provides you with the true IR at the cell being measured.
Testing selfmade ESR meter
Just testing very simple high frequency ESR (capacitor resistance) tester. With some bad capacitors, good capacitors, resistor and several inductors. Testing ESR at 150kHz. No need to desolder caps from PCB as several cm of pcb traces have enough inductance to isolate capacitor from whole circuit. Very low voltage test- any active components do not interfere with measure.

BC3 Wall Ride (which got voted wrong so we raced at Yoshi Falls) 2. Coconut Tumble - Roll over and play dead 3. Dry Dry for a Mountain Dance - Get up there and dance 4. Goldmine Kart Dodging - Go over the jump, turn around and try to go up the rails (we visited GBA BC3 instead.) This was a lot of fun so I put together clips to create this video for the ESR and to share with everyone else. Capacitor ESR test w/o ESR meter
Hello. Sort of an update on a LCD TV I am repairing during my spare time, but this is mostly a quick visual run of how to use an oscilloscope/function generator for the same purpose as an ESR meter. I followed a very similar setup to what is described on this guys page: fullnet.com For those who care, the board I am troubleshooting right now is a DSP: Insignia 782.26HA37-690E However, after quite a bit of searching, I have found that this board is almost identical to both Insignia DSP 6HA0136910-12V-LH32 and Vizio DSP 569HA0969E any questions/Comments? (copyright infringement of the music I had playing shouldn't be an issue here, but if questionable I am citing section 107 of copyright law for "fair use")

[How To] Boot Games Off Memory Card With Playstation 2 Slim Using ESR Launcher (No BS Tutorial)
Using the PS2 Slim (must be made before March 2008), and with the Free McBoot package, you can play patched ESR PS2 DVD games (CD PS2 games not supported). What this means is that you can insert a backed up game copy, and have the PS2 boot it with your memory card. Why does it work? The ESR patcher tricks the PS2 thinking you are playing a DVD movie, when in reality it is booting a game. No need for mod chip, or swap magic. Just an exploited memory card. Sounds awesome? This is because it is awesome! See the video tutorial to become a PS2 master and pat yourself on the back. The only real hurdle is how to make the exploited memory card in the first place. Once you got that figured out, the rest of the PS2 journey is a piece of cake. - Versatile *Is it possible to use Fat PS2s? I don't know for sure, you might have some luck if V9 and above. I, web7days posted this not YOU Equivalent Series Resistance www.justradios.com smooth out voltage, capacitance rating=energy uF=microfarads, voltage rating=max voltage, polarity square wave form in pin 3 and see-saw wave form in pin 2. it is very often the ESR Capacitor Meter that solved the problem at last. If a capacitor is open or shorted, it is easy to detect by using a Multimeter. But in the most cases, the capacitors are neither open nor shorted. They can almost keep as the same value as the good ones have, but they do not work in circuits anymore. In this case, it is very hard to find a bad capacitor with Multimeter or even a LCR meter. But if you use Capacitor ESR Meter, you will see significant changes for those bad capacitors which will tell no difference when you use other kind of meters. Thanks to Stephen M. Powell
