Reenactment #5: Star Trek: First Contact

The Fifth of my Re-enactment series. I'm not a trekkie, but I do think Star Trek: The Next Generation is a kick-ass show, rivaled only by its kick-ass movies (with the exception of the last one...). First Contact is a good example. In this scene, a woman from the 21st century is on board the Enterprise, which is slowly being overtaken by a race of aliens known as the "Borg." Captain Jean-Luc Picard does not want to self-destuct his ship, even though it is the only way to defeat the Borg once and for all. The woman attempts to talk Picard into doing it. This will only be funny if you have seen this movie. If not, sit back and enjoy my shitty impersonation of Patrick Stewart. Notice that I didn't even attempt to look like a woman for the other part. Just use your imagination. Resources: a very nice red turtleneck Note: That's a Star Trek: First Contact hat lying on Picard's desk. Thought I'd throw that in there.

Dark age re-enactment with commentary

Shot some years ago on silent Super-8mm film, this footage shows three fights over the same ground, followed by a different fight on a steep slope. The fighters are using full-weight iron weapons (largely mild steel). Helmets and gloves are worn for safety, but the main things that keep people safe are training are common sense. These are not choreographed fights. These people are genuinely trying to hit each other, and the outcomes of the fights are in doubt until the end. The combat system was pretty simple. A hit to an arm or leg rendered it useless (drop weapon, fall over). A hit to the torso was a kill. Hands, feet, and heads were not legal targets. The man taking the hit decided whether the hit was good, not the man dishing it out. Any armour worn was for decoration, and had no function in the combat system. The early stages of each fight were usually slow, with each shieldwall trying to find a way around or through the other, trying to create gaps by manoeuvre or inflicting casualties. When one side's formation became untenable, the fight would very suddenly change nature and everyone on both sides would drop spears and swap to shorter weapons as quickly as possible. Many people got killed during the changeover. There was seldom time to throw a spear - dropping it was much quicker (although throwing spears was also considered too dangerous). With as few as three people, it was worth forming a line and using spears at first. Once an opponent had closed with a <b>...</b>

Reenactment #14: The Big Lebowski

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The Fourteenth of my Re-enactment series. I can't stress "strong language" enough. The Big Lebowski is on the list of top movies in which the F-word is used most frequently. In this scene, Walter and The Dude are going bowling as usual. When someone on the other team steps "OVER THE LINE," Walter calls him on it and pulls a gun. I just think this scene is hilarious; John Goodman's character adds so much to the movie. Understandably, this movie is not everyone's cup of tea. For those of you who haven't seen this movie, you may not get it or think it's funny. This is a cult classic for a reason, I guess. PS - Wtf, Youtube? After you did some "maintenance," my sound is lagging a bit... dammit. PPS - Still working on Dogma.

Lost Re-enactment - "Mr. Eko Buys Some Heroin"

A re-enacted scene from Lost Season 2, Episode 10 TWITTER! twitter.com Lost is an American television series created by Jeffrey Lieber, JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof, which originally aired on the American Broadcasting Company from September 22, 2004 to May 23, 2010. The series follows the lives of various groups and people, most importantly the survivors of the crash of a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, on a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific. Episodes of the early seasons typically feature a primary storyline on the island, as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character's life. Lost was produced by ABC Studios, Bad Robot Productions and Grass Skirt Productions. Throughout its run, the executive producers of the series were Lindelof, Abrams, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Jean Higgins, Elizabeth Sarnoff and Carlton Cuse. Due to its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii,[1] the series was one of the most expensive on television.[2] During its run, the series utilized the alternative reality games, The Lost Experience and Find 815 on the Internet, and references to the series appear in print, film, other television programs as well as Web media. A critically-acclaimed and popular success, Lost was consistently ranked by US critics on their lists of top fives series of the year.[3] The first season garnered an average of 15.69 million <b>...</b>

Reenactment #17: Goodfellas

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE. The Seventeenth of my Re-enactment Series. If there ever was a scene that is widely known in cinema, it's this one. In this scene from Martin Scorcese's Goodfellas, Joe Pesci's character is telling an amusing anecdote to his friends. Ray Liotta's character says he's funny, to which Pesci's character takes the wrong way... This is my first video in which I used my new GL-2, a very nice digital camera. The video quality's oustanding. This was hard because I had to overlap a lot of sounds, mainly me laughing as three other people. Happy New Year, you stutterin' pricks, you.

Reenactment #18: Jurassic Park

The Eighteenth of my Re-Enactment Series. The only reason I did this video: Jeff "Freaking" Goldblum. My friends and I sat up all night doing Jeff Goldblum impersonations, ending each sentence with "and, and, if... and, well, thereitis." I have a hunch that when he gets a script, he adds a comma after 90% of the words in all of his lines. "I'm just saying that, uh, uh, life, uh, finds, a way." I concentrated on Jeff Goldblum... my impersonation of the other four characters may not be up to par. I have A Few Good Men in my possession... maybe this week.

Reenactment #23: Full Metal Jacket [Request #3 of List #1]

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The 23rd of my Re-Enactment Series. A few things: 1. No, I did not lip sync, I simply added reverb to the dialogue. The audio is a bit off thanks to the video being compressed onto Youtube. I wouldn't go Milli Vanilli on you. 2. Yes, I know I failed to put in the "Sir-yes-sirs" in the beginning, simply because I didn't feel like waiting an extra hour to re-do that an export it for a fifth time. Use your imagination. In this scene from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, new recruits for Vietnam are being lectured on their first day by Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, played by former real-life drill instructor R. Lee Ermey. It's kind of a shame... the first 45 minutes of this film is amazing. The scenes that actually take place in Vietnam kind of drag. Still, Kubrick was awesome. Good choice, guys. This is an awesome scene... ugh. The Reservoir Dogs one is even longer... you guys are making me work.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang re-enactment

This is a scene from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang we did for a contest. We... won a video ipod. Muwahaha. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a 2005 crime/dark comedy film, which engages many conventions of the classic film noir genre in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. It is based, in part, on the novel Bodies Are Where You Find Them by Brett Halliday. The cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Val Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan. The screenplay was written by Shane Black who also directed the film. It was produced by Joel Silver, and co-produced by Downey's wife Susan Downey (who is credited as Susan Levin). The film's title is a reference to Pauline Kael's 1968 book, which in turn was named after a translation of an Italian poster of a James Bond movie, which she called "perhaps the briefest statement imaginable of the basic appeal of the movies."[2] Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was filmed in Los Angeles between February 24 and May 3, 2004. After debuting at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival in France on May 14,[3] it received a limited release in cinemas in late October and early November 2005. It was the first film produced by Public Media Works, a production company founded by Corbin Bernsen.[4] The film is narrated by a small-time criminal, Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey, Jr.). He is self-aware and discusses the events of the film in an almost metafictional way. Fleeing a botched robbery, Harry evades the police by ducking into a movie audition for a hardboiled film and, ironically, impresses the producers with <b>...</b>

Reenactment #16: Ocean's Eleven

WARNING: MILD LANGUAGE The Sixteenth of my Re-enactment Series. So I thought I was done with the reenactments for a while. I still owe you guys "A Few Good Men," but besides that, I'm reaching the end of the line. I can't think of any more scenes I'd like to reenact. I do want to try and make it to 20 reenactments before I stop though. I thought of this scene and got real excited. In a four hour adrenaline rush, I put this together. I'm quite proud of this one. In this scene from Ocean's Eleven, George Clooney's and Brad Pitt's characters are talking to Elliot Gould's character about robbing three Las Vegas Casinos. Yes, I went shirtless. It worked since the character and I are both fat. I used a few video effects, mainly with color and brightness to give a feel for the different time periods: Black and white with high contrast for the 50s, saturated and high brightness for the 70s, and a little hue adjustment for the 80s.
