Make Europium and Dysprosium Nitrate salts.

In this video we make europium and dysprosium nitrate salts we'll need in upcoming videos. Instead of buying the salts directly from our chemical supply companies we decided to make them entirely using chemicals anyone can buy online or make themselves. In this case europium metal and dysprosium metal with nitric acid. The europium and dysprosium metal were purchased online from: elementsales.com The nitric acid was produced in our nitric acid video: www.youtube.com The procedures for both salts is rather simple. First, obtain 2.5 grams of europium. Europium comes in mineral oil so it must be washed off with toluene. Then the europium is placed in a beaker where a total of 10 mL of water is added in small portions. This is added before the acid for safety reasons. After all the water is added and the reaction seems to have slowed down 10mL of concentrated 15.6 molar nitric acid is added. The solution is then heated to ensure complete reaction of all the metal bits. For dysprosium: 5g of dysprosium can be directly added to a mixture of 20mL of water and 20mL Nitric acid. Once again, heating the solution ensures complete reaction. Both nitrates are allowed to dry in the desiccator bag we made last week: www.youtube.com Afterward, the nitrates are transferred to vials for storage and labeled. The europium salt produced will be Europium Nitrate pentahydrate The dysprosium salt produced will be dysprosium nitrate pentahydrate. We're going to use these nitrates for some cool ...

Frank Wilson-Do I love You(europium extended remix)

We know many people will not appreciate us fiddling with such a classic track, but we did it only because whenever we tried to get to the dancefloor when this classic started it was nearly finished, so we've made it longer. Nothing has been added and all the original track is still there, it's just been stretched a wee bit using smoke and mirrors. As for the people dancing, well, all we can say is that we hope you don't mind us ripping you off and that you appreciate we did it in the spirit of Northern Soul. Thank you Keep the Faith

China's Monopoly on Rare Earth Minerals to Diminish

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com China currently produces the vast majority of the worlds rare-earth minerals - a group of 17 elements essential for a range of modern technology. However, China's monopoly on supply of these minerals could be about to change. China's current monopoly as a supplier of rare-earth metals is likely to change in the next couple of years, according to a new report, with new rare-earth mines opening in Western Australia and California. For years, China has produced at least 90 percent of rare earth metals and restricted exports, driving prices even higher. Some Japanese companies have moved to China to ensure supply of rare earth metals for production of their technologies, according to an article in the newspaper The Australian. The article refers to a report published yesterday by Gareth Hutch, a rare metals expert from Illinois, who predicts that the global percentage of rare earth metals supplied by China will drop significantly in the next six years. The group of 17 rare elements includes europium, which is used to produce the red color in televisions. Europium sold for $720 per kg at the start of 2011 and has since risen to $6300 per kg. Harth predicts that China's share of the world market of europium will drop to 76 percent in two years and 37 percent in six years. He predicts a similar story for other rare earth metals.

Make Green Fluorescent Crystals from Terbium Metal

In this video we make green fluorescent crystals from Terbium metal. Terbium is used to dope calcium fluoride, calcium tungstate and strontium molybdate, materials that are used in solid-state devices, and as a crystal stabilizer of fuel cells which operate at elevated temperatures. As a component of Terfenol-D (an alloy that expands and contracts when exposed to magnetic fields more than any other alloy), terbium is of use in actuators, in naval sonar systems and in sensors. The largest consumer of the world's terbium supply is in "green" phosphors (which are usually yellow). Terbium oxide is in fluorescent lamps and TV tubes. Terbium "green" phosphors (which fluoresce a brilliant lemon-yellow) are combined with divalent europium blue phosphors and trivalent europium red phosphors to provide "trichromatic" lighting technology, a high-efficiency white light used for standard illumination in indoor lighting.

Timothy McVeigh Photofit Trace Proof

This video shows how the photofit picture of Timothy McVeigh released by the FBI was traced from a photograph. By only copying, pasting and scaling we can see that the accuracy of the photofit to the photograph is remarkable. Which then begs the question, if you have a photograph of your suspect, why trace it and release it as a photofit? You don't need me to outline the ramifications of this. It proves prior knowlege by the FBI. I suggest you pause the video near the end as the composite is about 50/50 and take a step back from the screen. It's one and the same. No question. James Kenny of Frontier Rare Earths Discusses REE Valuation and 'The Big 5'

James Kenny, Director and CEO for Frontier Rare Earths Limited (TSX: FRO) (TSX: FRO.WT), a mineral exploration and development exclusively focused on the development of rare earths projects in Southern Africa, discusses the challenges innate in placing effective market valuations on REE resource companies. Discussing the 43-101 process, coining 'The Big 5' (Neodymium, Praseodymium, Europium, Terbium, and Dysprosium) he makes a case for why investors need to pay particular attention to the Company's Project, Size of the Resource, Capital Expenditure and of course, the Metallurgy/Minerology. Frontier's flagship asset is the Zandkopsdrift rare earth project, which is located in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa and is one of the largest undeveloped, advanced rare earth deposits worldwide.

Make SMASH-GLOW Crystals!!!

In this video we make triboluminescent or smash-glow crystals. Triboluminescence is the phenomena where light is generated when something is rubbed or fractured. The exact mechanism by which triboluminescence works is still under investigation, but the best theories so far propose that the breaking of the structure causes charge separation that release energy upon recombination. This energy is picked up by nearby atoms, in this case europium, and released as light according to their ionization or fluorescence spectra. Many substances exhibit triboluminescence including sugar and tape. But Europium Tetrakis (Dibenzoylmethide)Triethylammonium is one of the strongest available and its glow can easily be captured by a camera. It's made by mixing 100mL of Ethanol, 2.93g of dibenzoylmethane, 1.4g of europium nitrate pentahydrate and 1.9mL of triethylamine. The mixture is heated until everything dissolves and then allowed to cool slowly to obtain crystals that are filtered off and washed with ethanol. After thorough drying they are ready for use. A frequently asked question is if this stuff is hot when it is used. The answer is no, the crystals do not undergo a chemical transformation and thus they do not release or consume heat, but remain at constant temperature. There may be some small heating due to friction when they are broken, but that is not from the crystals or a special property of triboluminescence.

Rare Earth Prices Rise, Chinese Regime Limits Supply

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com The prices of rare earth metals have skyrocketed this year. The metals are used in high tech devices and the world's number one exporter is China. The Chinese regime has recently taken measures to tighten its control over the industry. Rare earth metals are used in everything from cell phones to TVs to missiles. The US used to be the world's top exporter, but was overtaken by China in the mid-80s. China has cheaper labor and less environmental restrictions and now controls over 95 percent of the market. In recent months prices of these rare metals have skyrocketed. Europium Oxide, used in the production of TVs, now costs over three times as much as one month ago. Zhang Fang, an analyst with China Securities Co Ltd, tells AFP that the price rise was "mainly led by government policies that support industry consolidation." The Chinese regime is buying up rare earth mines, bringing them under state control. The regime has set an export limit of just over 30 thousand tons for this year, a decrease of 35 percent on the year before. The regime cites "environmental concerns" as the reason for this limit, but with prices rising, international buyers aren't happy. Yet China isn't the only country to have rare earths under the ground, there are also deposits in the United States, India, South Africa and several other nations. The question is how high does the price have to go ...

Chinese Regime to Appeal WTO Raw Materials Ruling

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com China dominates the global production of rare earth metals—materials vital for manufacturing electronics. But the Chinese regime's restricted export policy has led to a dispute with the World Trade Organization. Here's that story. August 24th saw the Chinese regime vow to appeal a World Trade Organization ruling against its raw materials export policy. The ruling was levied against the regime's restrictions on exports of rare earth metals. Those are industrial materials used in making everything from cell phones and TVs, to medicine. In July, a WTO legal panel rejected a Chinese official's claim that they were limiting exports for environmental protection. The case was brought to the WTO in 2009 by the United States, the European Union, and Mexico on grounds that the limits were being used to drive up prices, not for environmental protection. The environmental protection claims were weakened because the regime did not put limits on domestic production and consumption. The Chinese regime controls 97% of the world's supply of rare earth metals. But it has been steadily limiting their export. A 30-thousand-ton export limit was put in place earlier this year—up 35% from last year. This has lead to major shortages of rare earth metals abroad, driving up prices.
