Cesaria Evora - Carnaval De Sao Vicente
A native of the island nation of Cape Verde, Césaria Évora is known as the country's foremost practitioner of the morna, which is strongly associated with the islands and combines West African percussion with Portuguese fados, Brazilian modhinas, and British sea shanties. Évora began singing morna at age 16 after meeting an attractive young guitarist. Her talent soon had her performing all over the islands, and in the late '60s two of her radio tapes were released as albums in the Netherlands and Portugal, respectively. However, Évora never left her country, and gave up singing in the mid-'70s owing to lack of profit. In 1985, at the age of 45, she decided to return to music and traveled to Portugal to record two songs for an anthology of female Cape Verdean singers. This led to subsequent recording sessions in Paris, which resulted in four albums from 1988 to 1992. Her international fame grew, and she toured Europe, Africa, Brazil, and Canada, with stops in the United States to perform for Cape Verdean audiences. In the fall of 1995, she mounted her first large-scale American tour; subsequent recordings include 1997's Cabo Verde and 1999's Mar Azul and Cafe Atlantico. With Évora now a certified international star, the new millennium didn't see any loss of momentum for the singer and she continued to record and tour the globe. Morna legend Cesaria Evora dies at age 70
Cesaria Evora, the "barefoot diva" who is credited for introducing Cape Verde's morna style of music to the world, has died at the age of 70. Evora began singing at the age of 16, perfecting her voice in the bars of Mindelo. However, she did not rise to fame until her late 40's, when her album La Diva Aux Pieds Nus (1988) became a hit. EVora went on to release 10 more studio albums, of which she won a Grammy award for Voz d'Amor (2003). While she was never a mainstream artist, her deep, soulful voice and raw emotion will keep her in the memory of her fans for years to come. Al Jazeera's Barbara Angopa reports.

The all-new 2010 Lotus Evora...from our friends at Fox Valley Motorcars/Lamborghini Chicago. I have to admit, I was not excited about this car at all. Just the overall concept of the car seemed too plain, too refined, too accommodating, things Lotus has never really been about. The Lotus Elise is one of the most exciting cars available today, but any car that can replicate replays of vintage F1 races through your daily commute should get your heart pumping. From its size and luxurious interior to its dead silent cabin, I can't imagine why this car would appeal to a Lotus enthusiast. The first time I sat behind the wheel, I was moving the car into position so that Dave could take some pictures. Immediately, the gauges fired up with a clear multi-function display brightly lit. I pushed the featherweight clutch to the floor and engaged reverse. Before my eyes, on the navigation screen was a crystal clear image of the area behind the car. It took a second to register that a rear view camera was indeed factory-installed on this new Lotus, and a couple more to realize that the beeping sensation I was hearing was the factory park distance control. The steering was super quick from lock-to-lock, and the power-assist felt very linear. Taking a closer look, we studied the drivetrain. With a Toyota-sourced 3.5 Liter V6 behind the rear seats, this engine produced 278 horsepower. Not the most potent plant in the world, but we'd see about that when we hit the street.
