The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat, twin-engined, all-weather, long-range supersonic interceptor fighter/fighter-bomber originally developed for the US Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. Proving highly adaptable, it became a major part of the air wings of the US Navy, US Marine Corps, and US Air Force. It was used extensively by all three of these services during the Vietnam War, serving as the principal air superiority fighter for both the Navy and Air Force, as well as being important in the ground-attack and reconnaissance roles by the close of US involvement in the war. First entering service in 1960, the Phantom continued to form a major part of US military air power throughout the 1970s and 1980s, being gradually replaced by more modern aircraft such as the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon in the US Air Force; the F-14 Tomcat and F/A-18 Hornet in the US Navy; and the F/A-18 in the US Marine Corps. It remained in use by the US in the reconnaissance and Wild Weasel roles in the 1991 Gulf War, finally leaving service in 1996. The Phantom was also operated by the armed forces of 11 other nations. Israeli Phantoms saw extensive combat in several ArabIsraeli conflicts, while Iran used its large fleet of Phantoms in the IranIraq War. Phantoms remain in front line service with seven countries, and in use as an unmanned target in the US Air Force. Phantom production ran from 1958 to 1981, with a total of 5195 built. ***PLEASE READ*** Many of you wanted to see my Phantom Fly again so I hope you enjoy this comparison video for fun and a bit of aviation history gone by. I can tell you that I have put way more hours and time in this model than any other model I have ever had in 50 years. I also know plenty about Phantom jets, having spent 30 years in the Marine Corps Aviation field working on the RF4-B Photo recon birds when they were first introduced and worked on them till they were phased out. I actually flew in them and know all the quirks. And note this....not many air shows with old planes feature Phantoms because they also need special equipment to fly since they don't even self start! So right out of my Natops flight manual, I present these facts and suggest that if you get the NitroPlanes ProJet F4, you incorporate some or all of the following options that are standard equipment on the real plane, and with good reason. It's because the Projet flies just like a real phantom, and could use some of the real Phantom's equipment as McDonnell Douglas designed it. "What do they know?" LOL. First of all, since they are very heavy and McDonnell Douglas incorporate a flying elevator in the real one. It scoops some of the turbine thrust to help at low speeds and can make a high Alpha approach easier. It's kinda like thrust vectoring. Second. It has Flaps and (Slats) on front of wing that increases airfoil even more than just rear flaps. Third It has BLC (Boundary Layer Control). That means <b>...</b>

This Video is a fitting tribute to all the F4 pilots that of the Vietnam era who flew missions from "Barrel Roll", "Arc Light"- "Bullet Shot", "Iron Hand", "Operation Bolo" to "Rolling Thunder", "Linebacker" & "Linebacker II"! In 1952, McDonnell's Chief of Aerodynamics, Dave Lewis, was appointed by CEO Jim McDonnell to be the company's Preliminary Design Manager. With no new aircraft competitions on the horizon, internal studies concluded the Navy had the greatest need for a new and different aircraft type, an attack fighter.The F-4 Phantom was designed as a fleet defense fighter for the US Navy, and first entered service in 1960. By 1963, it had been adopted by the US Air Force for the fighter-bomber role. When production ended in 1981, 5195 Phantom IIs had been built, making it the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft. Until the advent of the F-15 Eagle, the F-4 also held a record for the longest continuous production for a fighter with a run of 24 years. Innovations in the F-4 included an advanced pulse-doppler radar and extensive use of titanium in its airframe. The F-4 Phantom has the distinction of being the last United States fighter flown to attain ace status in the 20th century. F-4 Phantom II 70MM First Flight With Crash Landing
F-4 Phantom II 70MM, first flight, it was 28 deg outside, cloudy, hard to see and she was tail heavy. I was not able to open her up because of the conditions. During the landing, I was late with the power and the decision to go around and crash landed. Once I move the battery forward and we get a clear sunny day, I will open her up. I was only at half stick during the flight. Stay tuned for the secound flight and thanks for viewing.

F-4 Phantom ARF R/C Jet
28-3/8" wingspan, 43-3/8" length, 250 sq. in. wing area, 34 oz. flying weight. This all-molded foam airplane comes completely painted in an attractive matte finish with waterslide decals applied. The 70mm fan with brushless outrunner motor is pre-installed, as is the 45A brushless speed control. The jet has 5 pre-installed servos: (2) ailerons, (2) elevators, nose wheel steering. Landing gear is fixed but can be easily removed for hand launching. Battery changes are quick, just remove the canopy that is held in place with magnets. The jet is large enough for good visibility in flight, but is easily transported. The thrust from the 70mm fan with the included 4 cell 2100 mAh LiPo battery will quickly accelerate the F-4 into the air. The climbout is steep and the speed impressive. The full scale Phantom had the glide angle of a brick; our version displays much more pilot friendly manners. Due to its light weight the F-4 will slow down nicely and retain its good flying character, making landings a thing of beauty. Flight times are about 5 minutes on a charge. Requires a 4 channel radio.
