My tribute to Ronnie Peterson the "Super Swede" who died during the 1978 Italian Grand Prix at Monza in an horrible start crash. He was one of the most talented and best skilled drivers during the 70's. After driving carts and participating at Formula 2 he entered Grand Prix Racing in 1970. He was driving for March, Lotus( Lotus 72 & 79 ground car effect) and Tyrrell ( six - wheeler) always with a Ford Cosworth V8 engine. For the 1979 season he already signed a contract with Mclaren. Some of his team mates were Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jacky Ickx, Vittorio Brambilla, Hans Joachim Stuck and Mario Andretti the 1978 worldchampion. He won 10 of his 123 races, conquered the Pole Position for 14 times and made 9 fastest laps. He was the most successful Swedish racing driver at F1. After all these years he still isn't forgotten. Peter Bowerman's (aka Spear) 5th & 6h race in the FAA Golf GTI and Classic Touring Car Championship (round 3) 2nd October 2011 at the exclusive Ascari Race Resort circuit. The day stated well with Spear qualifying first, but then missing the grid entrance by a minute with 7 other cars, as the race had been brought forward slightly. This meant that he had to start from the pit lane for the first race and fight from the back of the grid. Angry with loosing his first place and starting well behind the back of the grid, he pushed extra hard and took a risk with some instant overtaking moves including the outside of the fastest corner leading onto the back straights, but luckily they all paid off and he finally got third place. See some of the action in the video above, unfortunately some great action was missed in the second race as the new HD Hero camera batteries ran flat. In the second race of the weekend Spear managed to steel first place on the last couple of corners. Stephen had a promising start overtaking a few cars quickly, but in the first few laps of the second race pushed a little too hard and lost control of his GTI in the Ascari S's and smashed into the barrier and rolled his car. Stephen made a quick exit and was fine, but unfortunately his car was written off. Stephen is hoping to have a car built in 4 weeks ready for the next race weekend again at Ascari Race Resort circuit on the 12& 13th of November 2011. A tribute to Pedro Rodriguez, my childhood hero. Pedro Rodriguez (born Pedro Rodríguez de la Vega, 18 January 1940 -- 11 July 1971) was a Mexican Grand Prix motor racing driver. He was born in Mexico City and was the older brother of Ricardo Rodríguez. The brothers both raced bicycles and motorcycles to become Mexican champions. Pedro was national champion in 1953 and 1954 in motorcycles. He made his international debut in cars at Nassau in 1957 in a Ferrari, along with Ricardo in a Porsche. He was just 18 when US Ferrari importer Luigi Chinetti dispatched them to Le Mans at the wheel of a Ferrari 500 TR Testa Rossa. Ricardo, only 16 then, was not allowed to start so Pedro partnered José Behra, brother of Jean Behra. Just the overall concept of the car seemed too plain, too refined, too accommodating, things Lotus has never really been about. The Lotus Elise is one of the most exciting cars available today, but any car that can replicate replays of vintage F1 races through your daily commute should get your heart pumping. From its size and luxurious interior to its dead silent cabin, I can't imagine why this car would appeal to a Lotus enthusiast. The first time I sat behind the wheel, I was moving the car into position so that Dave could take some pictures. Immediately, the gauges fired up with a clear multi-function display brightly lit. I pushed the featherweight clutch to the floor and engaged reverse. Before my eyes, on the navigation screen was a crystal clear image of the area behind the car. It took a second to register that a rear view camera was indeed factory-installed on this new Lotus, and a couple more to realize that the beeping sensation I was hearing was the factory park distance control. The steering was super quick from lock-to-lock, and the power-assist felt very linear. Taking a closer look, we studied the drivetrain.
