Test pilot Major Desmond Brophy (Canadian Air Force Exchange pilot) gives a tour of an F-16 Fighting Falcon (aka Viper) cockpit used for flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base. If you're wondering what test pilots are doing in a relatively senior and proven airframe, the answer lies in continuous improvement and the fact that the airframe itself is far from the only thing that changes the flight characteristics of a modern fighter. These aircraft are inherently unstable and, though they are flown by pilots, it's computers that keep them in the air. A micro camera is installed onboard an r/c plane F-16. The camera transmit live the video to ground and I wear video goggle to fly the plane in real time like if I was in the cockpit. The camera replace the head of the pilot and the movement of the cam is control by the movement of my head on ground via a head mount gyroscope (head tracker) The whole system cost me around $1500 including the plane. F-16 Start Up Sequence
Start up of the F-16C is simple....no external APUs or other equipment is necessary. One switch turns on the battery and then another switch hits the Jet Fuel Starter. When you see the GREEN JFS light, unock the throttle and in less than a minute you're up to idle speed, and the only thing left to do is aligning the inertial navigation and perform pre-flight checks. BTW, the sound you hear at the beginning, its not an APU, its the motor from the canopy. You'll here a buzz, thats the battery, then you'll here it spooling thru N (nancy) stages. You'll notice he then glances over at the fan turbine inlet temp, oil pressure, nozzle position (NOZ) and RPM guages. After that he glances left and as the two lights go out on the left side panel, its all clear on engine start. He then reaches to the right, turns on the lights, and turns on navigation and other nav functions. As the navs start coming up and the ICP is lit up, you will notice the green lettering in the box to the RIGHT of the ICP, that is the inertial navigation system, and as that goes thru its checks you'll see "RDY" which means its ready and aligned. Then the MFD's come up and the HUD comes alive. The F-16C has a new wide angle HUD, which provides all flight info and weapons aiming Q's so the pilot can keep his head out of the cockpit and on target. Directly below the HUD you'll see the square box, called ICP or Inegrated Control Panel, on either side you'll see two MFD's that can show tac, nav, weapons and other <b>...</b>

Officials in Taiwan have criticised the US decision not to sell them new and more powerful F16 fighter jets, accusing the Obama administration of bowing to Chinese pressure. My vantage point in the show proved to be excellent as Booster took off from Runway 24R, and the 1000 foot mark of the runway was practically in front of me, and you get to see an almost-EOR vantage point for his takeoff. Following the demo, Booster joined up with Kevin Eldridge flying a P-51D Mustang for a Heritage Flight. I apologize for any bad color and/or vertical lines or American flag intrusion that may or may not be in this video. Unfortunately there were American flags that got in the way of the video during some critical parts of the videos and I have had some camera trouble throughout the weekend. MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Capt. Christopher Stricklin ejects from the USAF Thunderbirds number six aircraft less than a second before it impacted the ground at an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, Sept. 14. Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding the jet away from the crowd of more than 60000 people and ensuring he couldn't save the aircraft. The warplanes are based at Istres airbase in Marseille, the only air supply base in Europe.
