2012 FDNY EMS Week Poster

FDNY EMS members always say their career is not a choice, it is a calling. And the 2012 EMS Week poster, unveiled at EMS Station 32 on May 16, demonstrates their passion for the job. The FDNY-developed poster, which features Rescue Paramedic Don Faeth (a 25-year veteran of EMS), is in the style of a blockbuster film advertisement and carries the slogan: "More than a job. A calling." The poster will be displayed in approximately 350 phone kiosks donated by Van Wagner. It also carries a QR Code, which encourages viewers to join the FDNY's EMS Command. National EMS Week kicks off on Sun., May 20, with events scheduled throughout the city.

An hour at FDNY Brooklyn Borough Command

We are at Brooklyn Borough Command of the FDNY on Tillary Street and Gold Street off of Flatbush Avenue, where we see FDNY Hook and Ladder 110, Engine 207, and Battalion 31 (acting Battalion Chief today), as they go on a few different runs in the span of an hour. 110, 207, and 31 are housed with Division 11, Satellite 6, and the Mobile Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV). On the first run, 110, 207, and 31 respond to a call of a fire. Unfortunately, the call location information was wrongly sent to them. They responded to Nassau Street, but the call was for Nassau Avenue, somewhere else in Brooklyn. The second call we see is Engine 207 responding to a call of a person having seizures in the lobby of Civil Court on Jay Street. Luckily, the person was already being tended to by EMT's and was OK after being taken to the hospital. The third call we see is Engine 207, H&L 110, and Battalion 31 as the respond across the street to a vehicular accident involving a civilian and the Brooklyn Borough Chief. Apparently, the chief's black Chevy Suburban got t-boned by the tan Toyota. There were no injuries to either party and the only damage was a dent on the passengers side back door of the chief's truck. You can see the Borough Chief in the white shirt. Engine 207 is a 2010 Seagrave Marauder, H&L 110 is a 2003 rear mount 100 foot ladder. Both Battalion 31 and Division 11 are 2009 Chevy's. Enjoy all of the action from Borough Command. FDNY LVHS Fire NYFD NYC Eng 40 Truck 35

FDNY Truck 4, Engine 54 Smoldering Building, Hook and Ladder Deployment (Windows Opened not Broken)

Hats of to the FDNY. Read this for a message I'd like to give to you guys. First thing to mention here is my use of the words 'Windows Opened Not Broken'. This is an important thing to notice about the awareness and courtesy present in the attitudes of the firefighters of New York. Just the fact that the second set of windows gets opened to relieve the smoke condition, instead of broken, is such a great example of a firefighter that knows what the hell he is doing. These are not things to be taken for granted. Anyone can shove an axe through a glass window but, knowing that you don't have to and saving it is a whole different thing. This is a 13 minute video, and if you are looking for a blazing fire, it's not going to happen. When I shot this vid I was walking down Broadway and noticed fire trucks heading down a one way street the wrong way. In showing this to a friend who is an FDNY captain, he suggested I render it and post it, that it might be good for observation by other firefighters. It isn't very exciting for the standard Youtube audience, but maybe serves some purpose to watch the deployment and protocols. In another experience I had directly with FDNY some time after this, I have to say this... I've got a lot of friends that are FD, PD etc... But being in experiences directly with you guys, is different then just knowing you. I've seen what I need to see enough to take my hat off to you guys. I wouldn't be able to do what you do every day. You guys kick-ass. I'm <b>...</b>

We are at the quarters of FDNY Ladder 24 and Engine 1 on 31st Street off of 7th Avenue, where we see the two units as they respond to a call of a gas leak somewhere in the vicinity (location not given at the time of the call). 24 and 1 have some of the newest rigs in the city, with the new Ladder 24 being the most recent addition. The new order of ladders by the department has been made with Ferrara. Ladder 24 is a 2011 Ferrara rear mount with a 100 foot stick, while Engine 1 is a 2010 Seagrave. Enjoy the sight of both of these rigs, as well as the lights and noise made when they leave quarters. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. Police Attacked by Mob, FDNY Use Water Cannon on 50 "Teens" in NY Riot

In case you haven't figured it out yet, "teens" is now the official media code word for blacks. The video accompanying this article clearly shows that the "teen" rioters were black. Curiously, this doesn't appear to be a typical flash mob crime. Instead, the blacks apparently formed a sort of lynch mob for one of their own, who had somehow made a lot of enemies in the local project. An article from Silive.com, a local website in New York City, reports www.silive.com "...The scene unfolded at about 3:30 pm in front of 83 Harbor Rd., where a large group of teenagers had amassed to confront a teenage girl who lives in the residence. By the time it was over, two officers were sent to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, for treatment, and nine teens ended up under arrest, said Inspector John Denesopolis, the 120th Precinct's commanding officer. Police also recovered a starter pistol, he said. The officers were OK, but 'banged up,' Denesopolis said." "'It was chaos,' said one neighbor, who lives across the street but declined to give his name, stating that he feared retaliation. 'The yelling got louder and louder... There was probably 50 to 55 kids out here, and they were challenging one girl.' The group was threatening the girl, yelling at her to come out and fight, witnesses told the Advance. That sparked calls to 911, and two officers, one male, the other female, arrived at the scene." "The male officer attempted to arrest a member of the crowd, and the teens <b>...</b>

FDNY "Black Sunday" Bailout - Jeff Cool Interview

This video clip is narrated by Jeff Cool from Rescue 3 of the FDNY. It's a small segment taken from the IAFF Fire Ground Survival Program. The video recaps the events that took place at a tenement fire on January 23, 2005 in the Bronx, New York - Which killed Lt. John G. Bellew and Lt. Curtis Meyran and caused severe and critical injuries to Lt. Joseph DiBernardo, FF Jeffery Cool, FF Eugene Stolowski and FF Brendan Cawley. Firefighter Survival is comprised of many elements including having the ability to rapidly and safely exit from an upper floor when conventional exits are blocked or non existent. Carrying a Personal Escape System and knowing how to rapidly deploy it in the worst of all conditions can not only save your own life, but also a fellow Firefighter or a Civilian.
