Falklands War 1982: Early BBC Documentary with Live Reporting 1 of 8

It was 1982, and the Falkland Islands, a UK colony in the south Atlantic, had been invaded by Argentina. A task force was sent to fight a short, but fierce war. It lasted 10 weeks, and ended with a British victory. Shortly after the war ended the BBC put together a documentary, telling the story of the war from start to finish. Narrated by BBC newsreader of the time Richard Baker, with reporting from Brian Hanrahan, who sailed with the troops, this is the story of how the Falklands War was won. This footage formed the basis of a series broadcast by the BBC in June 1982 called Task Force South. Some of the images show front line fighting - and the terrible consequences of war. Users are warned that there are occasionally some graphic images.

Argentina getting ready to invade the Falklands???

Argentina is intercepting boats flying the Falklands flag or banning them from ports. The UK is considering sending a nuclear subarine. It seems Argentina is eyeing the oil reverves as well as the commercial fishing assettsof the region. If Argentina re-invades this could mean loss of life on both sides. It could also mean all the Brits who fought and died in 1982 was for nothing and that the UK looses the Falklands altogether. sorry for the crappy video quality. South American states ( Mercosur ) ban Falklands vessels from ports

21 December 2011 Last updated at 10:15 ET A South American trading bloc has agreed to close its ports to ships flying the Falkland Islands flag. Mercosur, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, came to the decision at a summit in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo. Jan Cheek is member of the Falkland Islands Assembly - her family have lived on the island for six generations. She said that the move was just the latest in a series of actions by Argentina to try and make life more difficult for those who live in the Falklands. www.bbc.co.uk

Falklands War - The Untold Story 1 of 12

Falklands War - The Untold Story (1987) Five years after the war in the Falklands between Britain and Argentina, many facts were still wrapped in red tape. Many of the key figures had remained silent. No-one had been to Argentina to tell the other side of the story. For the majority of the British people, the war was another glorious chapter in their history. With flags waving and bands playing, British troops had sailed away to repel the invaders. Patriotic emotions were stirred as they returned victorious. 'The Falklands War - The Untold Story', shot in Britain, the United States, Argentina and the Falklands, revealed for the first time to the British public the harsh realities of modern warfare. It caused controversy in Britain because it also told Argentina's story. Government MPs tried to get the film banned, but Yorkshire TV's telephones were jammed with messages of support from wives and mothers of those who died in the conflict. Called 'the documentary to end all documentaries about the Falklands War' in the British press, it was also described as 'more poem than polemic - a hymn against war'.
