Festo Aqua Ray

The fluidic muscle from Festo, in combination with the Fin Ray Effect®, constitutes Aqua_rays central propulsion and control unit. The Fin Ray Effect® is a construction that is derived from the functional anatomy of a fishs fin and imitates almost perfectly the mode of propulsion executed by the natural model. It is entirely due to the mechanics of the fin rays-bony rods that constitute the fins supporting structure that the wing can be arched to ensure even distribution of forces; this makes for a highly efficient drive mechanism. www.precisionpneumatics.co.uk

Festo Robot Arm

Airics_arm is a robot arm with artificial bones and muscles. A total of 30 muscles move the bone structure which, as with our own arms, consists of ulna and radius, metacarpal and finger bones, a shoulder joint and a shoulder bone-joints that are otherwise not encountered in this formin the world of technology. Airics bones have not grown of their own accord, nor do they automatic- ally heal following a fracture. They were designed on computer and are grown in a three-dimensional polyamide structure using a state-of-the-art laser sintering process. The muscles, a product of Festo, are already widely found in industrial application under the name of Fluidic Muscles. These are tubes of elastomer reinforced with aramide fibres. When a Fluidic Muscle is filled with compressed air, its diameter increases and it is simultaneously shortened. www.precisionpneumatics.co.uk

Electroquip brings you the Festo Airpenguins Seeing is believing - The Festo Airpenguin breaking into new bounderies for Factory Automation, by using ideas developed from nature Penguins are fascinating creatures which have lost their ability to fly in the course of their phylogenetic development as marine birds. With the AirPenguins, the engineers have created artificial penguins and taught them "autonomous flight in the sea of air". The knowledge acquired from this research project of Festo's Bionic Learning Network is to be put to use for future requirements in the automation of production processes. AirPenguin -- technology-bearers for adaptive flapping-wing mechanisms The AirPenguin is an autonomously flying object that comes close to its natural archetype in terms of agility and manoeuvrability. It comprises a helium-filled ballonett, which has a capacity of approx. 1 cubic metre and thus generates approx. 1 kg of buoyant force; at each end of the ballonett is a pyramid-shaped flexible structure of four carbon fibre rods, which are connected at joints by a series of rings spaced approx. 10 cm apart. The rings together with the carbon fibre rods yield a 3D Fin Ray® structure that can be freely moved in any spatial direction. The Fin Ray® structure was derived from the anatomy of a fish's fin and extended here for the first time to applications in three-dimensional space. Each pair of spatially opposed carbon fibre rods is connected via bowden wires and a double ...

Material flow Material flow and other processes demonstrated by the ProLog learning factory represent the duplication of an actual production facility with integrated shipping warehouse. The learning factory is equipped with various intermediate buffers and magazines for raw materials, as well as a storeroom for individual parts. In accordance with customer purchase orders, individual parts are fed to the order pulling robot just-in-sequence (JIS), which compiles work orders on pallets. Mobile robots equipped with stacking forks take the pallets and place them into storage in a high-rise warehouse, or transport them directly to the shipping department. Alphons Diepenbrock: Missa in die festo (1890), Kyrie

Diepenbrock: Mass; part 1(1/1): Kyrie. Performance St. John's Cathedral, Den Bosch, The Netherlands, 1985 THE LIFE AND WORK OF ALPHONS DIEPENBROCK ======================================== Alphons Diepenbrock was born in Amsterdam on 2 September 1862 in a well-to-do Catholic family. His early ambition was to become a conductor and composer, but his parents, wary of an uncertain future, opposed this which led him to study classical languages instead. After his doctorate (1888) for a thesis on Seneca, he became a teacher of classics at the grammar school in Den Bosch. In 1895 he married and returned to Amsterdam making a living by giving private tuition in Latin and Greek and by writing articles on music, painting, literature, philology and cultural history, inspired essays bearing witness to wide reading and great erudition and also showing substantial literary talent. With these writings he also pitched himself into the midst of the debate on the direction in which art should follow in the coming century. He was filled with ideals, widely cherished at the time, of community life centred around a mystical religiosity, in which the arts would together provoke higher thoughts in the people. His first breakthrough as a composer came with the first performance, by Willem Mengelberg and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1900, of the two 'Hymnen an die Nacht' for voice and orchestra. The première two years later of the grandiose Te Deum for double choir, soloists and ...
