Leicester v Newcastle 1992 Filbert Street PITCH INVASION
Crazy last day of the 1991-92 season as Newcastle need to win to avoid relegation to Division 3 & Leicester need to win to have a chance of promotion to the inaugral Premier League. In the event, Newcastle take the lead with a goal by Gavin Peacock but Leicester equalise in the second half. Following some disturbances and a minor pitch invasion, Leicesters captain Steve Walsh puts through his own net in the 90th minute to give Newcastle the win. All hell breaks loose with both sets of supporters dashing onto the pitch as the ref quickly ends the game. Kevin Keegan expresses concerns for his players safety (little Gavin Peacock could very well be squashed flat under the weight of Biffa Bacons Mutha) while Terry Mac howls uncontrollably. Newcastle went on to win the second division title with ease the following season while Leicester lost in the play-off final against Blackburn and again the following season against Swindon, finally winning promotion through the play offs at the third attempt in 1994 with a sweet victory over Derby.

RALPH CHAPIN, HAZELNUT HARVEST, FILBERT HARVESTING IN OREGON, PART 1
PART 1 is a video of the nut sweeper designed / built by my father Ralph Chapin of Perrydale, Oregon. The hazelnuts (also called filberts) fall to the ground typically late Sept / early Oct. Each row takes two passes with this machine. The sweeper in the front directs the nut to the center, while a fan blows the nuts around the tree into the next row. After sweeping in both directions, there is a row of nuts about a foot or so wide that will be picked up by the harvester in a second process. A filbert tree wants to grow as a bush, but has been pruned since its first year to grow as a tree; it is a constant and involved process. Also, the orchard floor is worked smooth and without weeds to prepare for this harvest method. This video was taken in 2008 in his fields on 99W on the border of Polk and Yamhill County, near Amity, OR.

Sticky www.stickyworldwide.com has created, produced and directed a new two-part short film for Filbert's soda, the last independent soda maker in the Midwest. Set in the year 1930, the first part of the story, titled "Willy And Scooter," follows the bicycle journey of a young rural boy (Willy, played by Noah Jerome Schwartz) to a distant soda shop for his favorite soda pop, an orange Filbert's. From the soda shop, Willy calls his best friend, Scooter (Lincoln Rogers), and surprises him with a gassy greeting. The production, which features the 1928 recording "Old Country Stomp" by Henry Thomas, an ensemble cast and vintage cars and wardrobe of the era, took three days to shoot in the western towns of Glen Ellyn, Sugar Grove, Big Rock and Hinckley, IL. Primary locations in Glen Ellyn were The Bells & Whistles Snackery (the soda shop), a refurbished space once occupied by the Hillside Pharmacy in what is The Rohm Building, built in 1929, the Glen Art Theater, which first opened its doors in the early 1920s, and the Glen Ellyn home of Bob and Jeanne Pitra. The O'Donnell farm, owned by husband and wife Bill and Chris O'Donnell of Big Rock, served as the home and journey start point for Willy. The cars featured included a 1929 Pierce Arrow owned by Jack Truckenbrod, a 1929 Hupmobile owned by Jim Manak, a 1926 Lincoln owned by Reuben and Emily Taylor, two 1930 Plymouths owned by Terry Berg and Mark Smith, a 1929 Ford Model A owned by Gregg Zartmann. San Francisco: Descent on Filbert Steps from Coit Tower
After our very informative, entertaining and filling North Beach culinary tour on February 22, 2008, we proceeded up a very steep section of Filbert Street to reach the top of Telegraph Hill. In the mid 1800s a semaphore or signaling tower was located here that would announce the arrival of ships to local financiers, merchants and speculators. This signaling system was later replaced with an electrical telegraph in 1862. The 360 degree view from atop Telegraph Hill is amazing, we could see the downtown financial district with the Transamerica Pyramid, the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, the northern waterfront with Alcatraz and the Marine Headlands in the background, the Golden Gate Bridge and the western half of the San Francisco peninsula, stretching out towards Golden Gate Park. The crowning jewel of Telegraph Hill is the Coit Tower, built in 1933 with donations from Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a well-known volunteer firefighter and unusual female character who lived from 1842 to 1929. The main floor of the Coit Tower holds a series of murals that adorn all sides of the building, featuring vignettes of Californian life in the 1930s. The famous murals were created in 1934 as part of the Public Works of Art Project, a federal employment program for local artists. The content of the murals is fascinating as they depict scenes from industry and business as well as street scenes and agricultural images. PART 3 is a video of the nut harvester owned my father Ralph Chapin of Perrydale, Oregon. The tractor pulled harvestor picks up the row of nuts made by the sweeper and blows the leaves, debris, and blank nuts out the side. The nuts are conveyed into the nut cart made my dad. At the end of most rows, the nut cart is emptied into boxes that go to the processing plant. He also made wheel sweeps in front of the tractor so that nuts that get out of place do not get crushed. Each nut is worth something, and it all adds up.
