DOA (1950) - Film Noir Classic

This public domain movie is a classic example of film noir and one of my favorite movies. In it, a guy is poisoned by radiation poisoning put in his drink, and he knows he is going to die, but in with his remaining time he dedicates himself to discovering who killed him, and why. It wasn't on YouTube yet so I thought I'd put it up. Orchard-L, author of Boundless Ocean, Missing, and who is helping me make Saturated Dreamers, recommended the movie to me. Film Noir Filmmaking How To : Indy Mogul

Are you a fan of the darker movies? Do Batman, Touch of Evil, Sin City, and The Maltese Falcon make you pee your pants (You don't pee your pants while watching your favorite movies!?!...well...yea...me neither)? Learn how to get that look with the right lighting, writing, and tons of other great tips. Even if you don't make movies...this ode to Film Noir will have you jumping in your seat (or promptly leaving it).

The Endless Night: A Valentine to Film Noir

After many long hours, this is my tribute to my favorite genre, to the dark shadows and the profound despair of the soul. I tried to include as many as I could get my hands on, though there are obviously some that I overlooked, some accidently (the absence of "The Sweet Smell of Success" and "White Heat" are the most obvious and shameful), some purposefully (save Sam Fuller's 1964 pulp masterpiece "The Naked Kiss," I decided to stay strictly within the 18-year period between 1940 and 1958, so absolutely no neo-noirs like "Chinatown", and even more importantly, absolutely no colors). Song: "Angel" by Massive Attack This video is dedicated to two awesome women: The first is my friend Cecilia Ossenbeck, my partner in crime in the adventures of cinema. The second is to noir icon Ann Savage, who died yesterday. If you like this, check out Eddie Muller's original short film: www.youtube.com And now, the noirs: THE LETTER (1940, William Wyler. Bette Davis) THE MALTESE FALCON (1941, John Huston. Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor) SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1943, Alfred Hitchcock. Joseph Cotten) DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944, Billy Wilder. Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray) MURDER, MY SWEET (1944, Edward Dmytryk. Dick Powell) SCARLET STREET (1945, Fritz Lang. Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett) LAURA (1945, Otto Preminger. Gene Tierney) DETOUR (1945, Edgar G. Ulhmer. Ann Savage) NOTORIOUS (1946, Alfred Hitchcock. Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman) GILDA (1946, Charles Vidor. Rita Hayworth) THE KILLERS (1946 ...

Film Noir Compilation

A collection of clips taken from 8 American Noir Films, between the years 1941 to 1955. The clips chosen all focus on guns, for an overall look at the role of guns play in Film Noir. Movies used: The Maltese Falcon ('41) Gilda ('46) The Big Sleep ('46) The Killers ('46) Out of the Past ('47) The Third Man ('49) Gun Crazy ('49) Kiss Me Deadly ('55) This compilation is for a final project in my Film Noir class, and I plan to rotoscope all of these clips into a 3 minute animation as the surreal extension of guns in film noir. M (1951) Film Noir - Joseph Losey

Joseph Losey's rarely seen remake of the Fritz Lang film. In a large city, a series of violent murders of young girls terrorizes citizens and baffles police. A nervous young man, Martin Harrow, stalks several children and soon focuses his attention on a little girl playing alone at a neighborhood carnival. Martin buys a balloon from a blind street vendor, then walks away with the child, whistling a peculiar tune. Later, after the child's body is discovered, police chief Regan makes a television announcement disclosing that evidence collected in the case indicates the same modus operandi found in previous killings, death by strangulation and the shoes of the victim taken. After the police warn the public to take extreme caution and report all suspicious behavior, many people overreact and harass several innocent men. [TCM]

Film Noir's title sequence

Please visit www.reljapenezic.com for more info. Film Noir's opening title sequence is an homage to the opening sequence of Robert Aldrich's 1955 masterpiece Kiss Me Deadly, designed by Relja Penezic (Raymond Penn), soundtrack by Mark Keller. As the art director of FILM NOIR Relja Penezic (alias Raymond Penn) is focusing on lonely, gloomy, moody, rainy, but also flickering, sparkling, glowing and beautiful Los Angeles. Based on the vision of writer co-director D. Jud Jones and in collaboration with co-director and animation director Risto Topaloski he worked on the look and feel of the movie. With his hands on approach he created and animated numerous background images, opening title sequence, parts of some other sequences, as well as over all image treatments. Film Noir is an animated feature film. Written by D. Jud Jones, directed by D. Jud Jones and Risto Topaloski, produced by Miodrag Certic (Official Selection 2007 Annecy International Animated Film Festival).
