Bruria Finkel creates works of art in a variety of media. These take the form of both temporary and permanent installations. She has participated in over 59 solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Her work is also found in many private and public collections, including the archives of the Smithsonian America Art Museum, the Luce Foundation, the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, Phoenix Museum of Art and Rutgers University. Finkel is one of the pioneers of the Los Angeles feminist art movement. She not only helped found the Los Angeles Council of Women Artists (LACWA) to protest gender discrimination at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1968 but also served as a board member of the groundbreaking alternative institution, Womanspace, in 1970. She has been curating exhibitions since the 1970s. In Conversation With David Finkel
David Finkel, 55, is a staff writer for the Washington Post and also the leader of the Post's national reporting team. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for a series of stories on US funded democracy efforts in Yemen. Finkel's book 'The Good Soldiers' describes several months he spent in 2007 as an embedded reporter with the American Army. The book was listed a best book of 2009 by the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Slate.com, and The Boston Globe, and won the Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism as well as the J Anthony Lukas Book Prize. Finkel currently lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wife and two daughters.

Remembering Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel
Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald, Director of Jewish Treats' parent organization, the National Jewish Outreach Program, shares a story about the great Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel z"l who passed away this week. On Tuesday, November 8, 2011, the Jewish community lost a great sage and a righteous person. Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel was the Rosh Yeshiva, the head, of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. The Mir is one of the largest yeshivot in the world with over 5000 students. Rav Finkel was actually originally an American who moved to Israel and went on to become an outstanding Torah scholar. He was known specifically for his warmth and generosity and he built the Mir into the towering educational institution it is today. Rav Finkel was stricken with Parkinson's disease while he was a rather young man, in his 40s, and he refused medication because he was afraid it was slow his thinking process. Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, told the following story: He was on a trip to Jerusalem with some other important business people. While there they had an audience with Rav Finkel. When he entered the room, his disability made some of the businessmen uncomfortable and they averted their eyes. So he pounded on the desk and got their attention. He asked them what they felt was the meaning of the Holocaust. Finally someone raised their hand and said that we learned that it should never happen again. Rav Finkel shrugged off that answer.
