William Shakespeare - Sonnet 61 - Fiona Shaw

Fiona Shaw performs Shakespeare's Sonnet 61 - From BBC's 2002 series Great Britons. Sonnet 61 by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) Is it thy will thy image should keep open My heavy eyelids to the weary night? Dost thou desire my slumbers should be broken While shadows like to thee do mock my sight? Is it thy spirit that thou send'st from thee So far from home into my deeds to pry, To find out shames and idle hours in me, The scope and tenure of thy jealousy? O, no, thy love, though much, is not so great; It is my love that keeps mine eye awake, Mine own true love that doth my rest defeat, To play the watchman ever for thy sake. For thee watch I whilst thou dost wake elsewhere, From me far off, with others all too near.

Fiona Shaw Reads From TS Eliot's The Waste Land

Fiona Shaw reads an extract from A Game Of Chess - The second part of TS Eliot's The Waste Land: "My nerves are bad to-night. Yes, bad. Stay with me. "Speak to me. Why do you never speak. Speak. "What are you thinking of? What thinking? What? "I never know what you are thinking. Think." I think we are in rats' alley Where the dead men lost their bones. "What is that noise?" The wind under the door. "What is that noise now? What is the wind doing?" Nothing again nothing. "Do "You know nothing? Do you see nothing? Do you remember "Nothing?" I remember Those are pearls that were his eyes. "Are you alive, or not? Is there nothing in your head?" But OOOO that Shakespearean Rag — It's so elegant So intelligent "What shall I do now? What shall I do?" "I shall rush out as I am, and walk the street "With my hair down, so. What shall we do to-morrow? "What shall we ever do?" The hot water at ten. And if it rains, a closed car at four. And we shall play a game of chess, Pressing lidless eyes and waiting for a knock upon the door. He'll want to know what you done with that money he gave you To get yourself some teeth. He did, I was there. William Butler Yeats - The Cap And Bells - Fiona Shaw

Fiona Shaw reads WB Yeats's The Cap And Bells The Cap And Bells by William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) The jester walked in the garden: The garden had fallen still; He bade his soul rise upward And stand on her window-sill. It rose in a straight blue garment, When owls began to call: It had grown wise-tongued by thinking Of a quiet and light footfall; But the young queen would not listen; She rose in her pale night-gown; She drew in the heavy casement And pushed the latches down. He bade his heart go to her, When the owls called out no more; In a red and quivering garment It sang to her through the door. It had grown sweet-tongued by dreaming Of a flutter of flower-like hair; But she took up her fan from the table And waved it off on the air. "I have cap and bells," he pondered, "I will send them to her and die"; And when the morning whitened He left them where she went by. She laid them upon her bosom, Under a cloud of her hair, And her red lips sang them a love-song Till stars grew out of the air. She opened her door and her window, And the heart and the soul came through, To her right hand came the red one, To her left hand came the blue. They set up a noise like crickets, A chattering wise and sweet, And her hair was a folded flower And the quiet of love in her feet.

HP- Lily and Petunia // Hello

Happy New Year! I bring you good tidings of great potterism in the form of the Evans sisters! I haven't made anything in ages, but this is a storyline I have wanted to vid for SO long. I loved the reference of Lily and Petunia in the books, but they missed all of this from the films. So (along with the help of one deleted scene) I wanted to vid the original idea. I always like to think that Petunia really loved her sister. She was jealous of her and she didn't understand her. But then her sister left her and I reckon she always regretted that they were never friends. Lily met James and lead her own life, and Petunia was left behind which I like to think is the reason for her treating Harry badly (the same way that Snape resented Lily) So enjoy! This will help me to find out if there are any hardcore Potter fans in amongst my subscribers! And this is also me telling you that I'm not dead ;) Happy 2012! I hope it brings you everything you everything you want! :) No copyright intended. this is purely for fan-made purposes!

Richard II's deposition scene (Ian McKellen and Fiona Shaw)

Two different versions of this scene, Sir Ian McKellen (1970 TV) and Fiona Shaw (1997 TV), are are shown and discussed. commentary by Jerry Brotton, Royal Holloway, University of London, and Fiona Shaw. Deposition scene (Act 4, scene 1) in Shakespeare's Richard II. This scene, of ritualized 'un-crowning', is not just a striking visual tableaux on stage (hard to imagine it all from just the text) but Shakespeare makes it even more than that--the mentions of parallels with God, the mirror bit, the issues you see actors in this excerpt wrestle with--the scene was not included in publishings of this play during Elizabeth's reign. Ian McKellen ... Richard II Timothy West ... Bolingbroke Directed by Richard Cottrell and Toby Robertson for early (1970) BBC colour transmission. Ian McKellen also performed, on TV in early 70s, George Tesman in "Hedda Gabler" with Janet Suzman, a Hamlet, a one-man show on Keats, and starred in Marlowe's "Edward II". These are begging for DVD release! This is about the youngest Ian McKellen (age 31 in '70) we can view. He did have some parts in movies released in 1969. McKellen's earliest film/TV credits are for some TV work in 1964 and '65 which I bet would be very difficult to locate and view now. Fiona Shaw ... Richard II Richard Bremmer ... Henry Bolingbroke Directed by Deborah Warner for TV, 1997. King Richard the Second, a history play by William Shakespeare, is called "The tragedie of King Richard the second" in the 1597 Quarto.

TS Eliot - A Dedication To My Wife

Fiona Shaw reads TS Eliot's A Dedication To My Wife in the presence of Mrs. Valerie Eliot herself. A Dedication To My Wife by TS Eliot (1888-1965) To whom I owe the leaping delight That quickens my senses in our wakingtime And the rhythm that governs the repose of our sleepingtime, The breathing in unison Of lovers whose bodies smell of each other Who think the same thoughts without need of speech And babble the same speech without need of meaning. No peevish winter wind shall chill No sullen tropic sun shall wither The roses in the rose-garden which is ours and ours only. But this dedication is for others to read: These are private words addressed to you in public.
