A look at the Australian theatrical daybills (House & Night Of The Creeps) for the films of Fred Dekker and a one-sheet (The Monster Squad) also :) I realised after completing the update (one I was hanging the one sheet back up) that the artwork for 'The Monster Squad' must definitely be an Australian exclusive as it has Clinton's signature on it! Fred Dekker is a critically underrated filmmaker who was responsible for some amazing horror comedies in the mid-eighties and if you haven't seen any of his films, you should really check them out, I rate him quite highly!

The Monster Squad is a comedy/horror film written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker and directed by Fred Dekker (who also wrote/directed Night of the Creeps). It was released by Tri-Star Pictures on August 14, 1987. The film features the classic monsters (re-imagined by a team of special effects artists including Stan Winston), led by Count Dracula (Duncan Regehr). They, in turn, combat a group of savvy kids out to keep them from controling the world.

Directed by Fred Dekker. Trivia The picture that Frankenstein's monster takes of Patrick's sister undressing in front of the window is actually of a blonde girl in a black shirt. According to director Fred Dekker the film was cut by ca. 13 minutes because some executives didn't want it to run more than 90 minutes. Dustin Diamond had a small role as a kid who tries to sell comic books to the boys, but this was later cut. Liam Neeson was paid for a bit part that was never shot.

Part two of my review of the totally tubular flick, The Monster Squad(1987) starring Andre Gower, Robby Kiger, Stephen Macht, Duncan Regehr, Tom Noonan, Brent Chalem, Ashley Bank, Michael Faustino, Mary Ellen Trainor, Jon Gries, and Jason Hervey. Directed by Fred Dekker. Trivia There is a poster for the Lucio Fulci film Zombi 2 visible in the background of the club house. The scene where Dracula lifts Phoebe up and she screams was done in one take. Duncan Regehr wouldn't wear his red contacts or fangs around the five year old Ashley Bank because it scared her too much. For the scene, director Fred Dekker just told Ashley to scream once the platform raised her. When she asked, "When?" Dekker told her, "Oh, you'll know," and proceeded to shoot. The terrified scream you hear when Dracula opens his eyes is Ashley's genuine scream of fright. There are at least two versions of Michael Sembello's end-credit song. In some versions, dating back to VHS release days, there is a lyric referring to "..the creature swimmin' in the pool". As of 2007, in the recent HD cable release, this is replaced simply by "..the Creature From The Black Lagoon".

Part three of my review of the the kick ass 80's classic, The Monster Squad(1987) starring Andre Gower, Robby Kiger, Stephen Macht, Duncan Regehr, Tom Noonan, Brent Chalem, Ashley Bank, Michael Faustino, Mary Ellen Trainor, Jon Gries, and Jason Hervey. Directed by Fred Dekker. Trivia Ashley Bank turned down a role in Fatal Attraction to play Phoebe. Liam Neeson was considered for the role of Dracula. The Wolfman's face was modeled after that of Stan Winston. In 2006, "Wizard" magazine made a list of the 100 Greatest Villains of All Time, Dracula was ranked as #30 on the list. But, surprisingly, it was for Duncan Regehr's performance in this film. His performance was chosen over all other versions of the character. Regehr's Dracula is still considered to be one the absolute best interpretations of the character.

Trivia According to Director Fred Dekker, Shane Black's first draft of the screenplay was so huge that the opening of the film featured Van Helsing accompanied by zeppelin's and hundreds of men on horseback storming Dracula's castle. Dekker stated that this sequence would have cost more than the final budget of the film. This is the second movie where Jon Gries plays the Wolfman - he also played the character in Fright Night Part 2.
