If you're a railfan in Erie, Pennsylvania, you know how to find the Franklin Avenue bridge. It traverses the CSX and Norfolk Southern tracks just south of the main gate to GE Transportation, where many of the locomotives are made that you see on the tracks. In an hour's time, we saw quite a few trains and some interesting surprises.

Norfolk Southern GE C40-9W (Dash 9-40CW) Scio, NY SC 10 From Wikipedia............ The GE Dash 9-40CW is a 4000 hp (2980 kW) diesel locomotive that was built by GE Transportation Systems of Erie, Pennsylvania between January 1996 and September 2004. All 1089 units were built for Norfolk Southern. These units were basically an extension of the previous order for the standard cab GE Dash 9-40C. They were built under the same premise that a lower horsepower rating would prolong the life of the engine. This unit was replaced in the new locomotive catalog with the Evolution Series model, the ES40DC.

Heres a video of my GE Locomotive steel bell. I got this off Ebay really cheap. I was told it came off a GE 70 tonner. When I got it it was rusty and dirty but I did a full restoration on it. I got it all back down to the steel and Repainted it. Looks and works good! I plan on making a bipod mount so I can mount this in the bed of my future pick up truck along with my EMD bell and Leslie airhorns.

With the helpers on the lead, west bound 135 exits Sand Patch tunnel. The helpers get taken off just past Sand Patch towel and head back to Hyndman, where the helpers where stationed at this time. Then the three 4 axle GE's will take the train west to Chicago. One EMD spoils the sound of the GE's. The second clip is at Keystone S bend, and its the 137, which was following the 135. A collection of clips shot on the Rio Tinto iron ore railway in Australias north west. The power is all GE. The high shot was taken on Mt Lois which overlooks the section between Possum and Pelican. The last clip will give you an idea of the train length. I baked for four hours waiting for loadeds to come on the east line....they didn't. The first/only one came just as I set up hence the wind noise as I had no time to run a lead to a microphone out of the wind.

We chase Camas Prairie Railnet # 3 North as it leads a local from Flagg Center IL to Rockford to do some switching. The Rockford Branch is in pretty bad shape, as you will see in the video as the local bounces, and ambles along. The train runs Monday-Friday. I know the lighting isn't the best, but I had to make due with what I had. This was filmed on Thursday, 6-12-08.

GE was testing one new BNSF (#6601) and two UP (#7353 & 7354) locomotives on Feb. 6th, 2009. Also caught two CSX freights from the location I was standing. The location is the Walbridge Road crossing just east of the GE plant. Filmed by blizzard4800 at Erie, PA.
