The car was original used for promotional purposes and as such has travelled the world before my friend (its current owner) acquired it and it has recently undergone some refurbishment to bring it back up to fantastic condition. At RK Motors, we've sold every single Shelby we've gotten our hands on this year, setting two price guide records in the process. Bottom line, as Carroll Shelby's star has risen, so have the values on the hardware bearing his name. And at the very top of the list has to be the King of the Road GT500KR like this 1968 Fastback. This 1968 Shelby GT500KR enjoyed a high-quality restoration in 2008 and looks spectacular today in its original Acapulco Blue finish. Driven less than 100 miles since it was completed, this car was restored to compete at the very highest levels, and the original mileage of 20912 is correct and authentic, with a complete owner and title history to back it up. The paint is 2-stage urethane that glitters in the sunlight, and the fiberglass pieces are in excellent condition. The original 428 Cobra Jet engine lives in a fully detailed and beautifully restored engine bay that is befitting a car of this caliber. Yes, it is the original engine, fully rebuilt to Cobra Jet specs. There's a lot of speculation about the actual horsepower of this engine, and performance tests of the day suggest that the number was really somewhere north of 400, and that's not hard to believe. With all the heavy duty upgrades that came with the Cobra Jet, it was clearly a piece built for performance and could easily handle the rigors of racing, which is exactly the image Ford wanted for their biggest hitter. This 1968 Shelby GT500KR pro-tourer combines a heavy dose of big engine power with modern car dynamics to create an unbeatable combination of street ready swagger. With less than 70K original miles, this completely rust free car lived most of its life as a well-maintained six cylinder grocery getter that, as you can tell, would prove to be the perfect candidate for a killer pro-touring build. The owner began by separating the body from its frame and ordering Shelby-style Maier fiberglass pieces for the front clip, hood, fender extensions, decklid and tail light panel. Once the frame was media blasted and the car was bolted back together, hours were spent mocking up the fiberglass pieces to ensure proper fit and the whole body was block sanded to a completely wave free surface. When the panels were as tight and flat as possible, the body was completely disassembled and covered from top to bottom in custom mixed Dupont Chromabase Candy Apple Red and a glossy clearcoat shell. Looking completely natural between the cars satin black fenders is a Robert Pond Motorsports aluminum side oiler 427 which has been stroked to 482 cubic inches and produces 575 horsepower. At the top of the engine, two Quickfuel tuned 750 Holley carburetors mix air from a finned air cleaner with fuel from a 22 gallon stainless fuel tank. Below those carburetors, a Blue Thunder 2x4 intake props a billet distributor above a custom Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft. Below that camshaft, a Scat crankshaft <b>...</b>

This is a before and after video of my Shelby's exhaust system. I took the stock mufflers off at approximately 4300 miles and replaced them with Ford Racing's FR500S (GT500KR) axle-back exhaust setup. The rest of the car is bone-stock. There is a world of difference between them. It's very loud when you step on it, and this video probably doesn't do them justice. I will try to get an in-car video of them as well.
