www.hungertv.com Giggs has travelled a long and arduous road to become what he is today -- a respected musician on the cusp of releasing his third album, the follow-up to the unapologetic portrayal of his past, Let Em Ave It. "I'm sometimes surprised I've come this far," says the Peckham rapper, referring to the debilitating impact the authorities have had on his life and career to date. Born in 1983, Nathaniel Thompson signed his record deal in 2010. The intervening years were pockmarked by boredom, petty crime, prejudice and rejection. The problems started in 2003, when Giggs was sentenced to two years in prison for possession of a firearm. Leaving his young son, his friends and a dangerous day-to-day existence behind, he used the time in prison to pause for reflection. Despite police intervention that threatened to scupper his music career -- firearm unit Operation Trident advised his label XL not to sign him, countless shows have been pulled due to crowd safety fears, and police have repeatedly raided and eventually forced the closure of his SN1 street wear shop -- Giggs is still standing. "There are always a lot of obstacles," he says, "even now." Striving to provide for his nine-year-old son and to change preconceptions by making the best music he can, Giggs is at an intriguing crossroads: does he strive to be as big as he desires, or does he stand by his staunch refusal to play by the rules?
