The Evolution of Final Fantasy [14] Gilgamesh (Part 2)

Part 14 in a series that takes a look at the history of one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time, chronicling the many recurring themes, characters and monsters that have appeared over the years. This entry focuses on the infamous sword hunter that always ends up getting his ass kicked, Gilgamesh (Part 2 of 2). Enjoy! Notes regarding this video (please read before commenting!): - For the entire series, I have simply gathered video footage from various sources on YouTube and compiled them together. I've done this only to entertain the many fans of Final Fantasy here on YouTube, so with that said, many thanks to all the folks who took the time to record the game footage. - Again, for the whole series, I've focused solely on the main games. Remakes and updates of those games are featured, but I've opted to skip games like Tactics, FFX-2 and such. I had to draw the line somewhere to keep a reasonable length. - Gilgamesh uses a few pseudonyms throughout FFIX, including Alleyway Jack (first clip) and The Four-Armed Man (second). Upon obtaining the Excalibur II, the player can read the note found in the third clip. Gilgy does reveal his true identity at one point, but I was unable to find that footage. - Couldn't find any video for FFXI, so I used a screenshot and slapped on the Norg theme song for good measure. - He does a lot of jabbering in FFXII, but since I had a fair amount of time left over, I figured I would compile most of his little cutscenes and cool animations.

Battle with Gilgamesh - Final Fantasy V

The awesome battle theme that is played when facing Gilgamesh, in Final Fantasy V. ahem...poor lighting again Most of this recording is from the piano collections version. I only changed a little bit, and added an intro. This intro though, is simplified. I might decide to make a new recording in the future. Ya I know some parts still should have been softer. I suck at that. One section which is P on the sheet music I purposely made MF though..but wutever Er...there's a major mess up but wtf. It doesnt sound so bad, or even bad at all. Also messed up on the triplets that I added myself..the second time through where the first part repeats. Enjoy Oh um if you want to see sheets to the sections I add/changed, here it is i60.photobucket.com

Epic of Gilgamesh with 4500-year-old Lyre (extract)

A performance of part of the Epic of Gilgamesh. This piece uses the newly-reconstructed and completed Lyre of Ur, which was found in a grave in ancient Mesopotamia. The original instrument was destroyed when the Baghdad museum was looted, and this reconstruction uses original materials - gut strings, pink sandstone, lapis lazuli, gold. The string tuning is based on pipes which were found in the same grave, and which appear in another video extract which we'll upload shortly. Andy Lowings reconstructed the Lyre with the help of an international team, and the extract you see here is performed by Bill Taylor and Jennifer Sturdy - Jennifer wears a headress and jewellery based on contemporary designs, also trimmed with gold. You can find out more about the music and the tunings of the lyre here: www.lyre-of-ur.com This video is a taste of a series of music, dance and performance being written especially for this instrument, which is gaining great interest in the academic and music world. If you are interested in having the team bring along this stunning instrument and perform for your organisation, please call Andy Lowings on +44 7709 268426 or in the UK, 07709 268426, and he will be happy to talk to you. I made this video as part of my own contribution to the project. I used Neumann mics into a Soundcraft mixer, with Sony widescreen video cameras, and edited it on Adobe Premiere pro. I hope you enjoy the video! Higher quality version: www.danceofdelight.com

The Epic of Gilgamesh

The Epic of Gilgamesh, set to the tune of "Johnny Has Gone for a Solider" aka "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" aka "The Ants Go Marching" with pieces of "John Brown's Body" aka "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and a dash of "O Death" spliced in. This is basically the version I set to "American Pie" with the final verses recorded as well. Here are the lyrics: Long ago and far away between two streams Lived a guy named Gilgamesh who was a king In ancient Uruk he began, 2/3 god and 1/3 man So listen to the tale I tell Of gods and monsters, death and hell And how his friend Enkidu fell Once upon a time Gilgamesh the hero wished that he could build a wall Make it strong and sturdy so that it would never fall So he made the men to work, the women do his beck and call They wished that he was gone. The people cried out to the gods who heard their pleas So they created Enkidu among the trees A human beast when he was born with hairy hide and head of horn Then a priestess came and as she neared She looked at him and said, "He's weird!" So she hacked his horns and shaved his beard And took him to the town. Gilgamesh and Enkidu both met and muscles flexed. Enkidu would not give in and Gilgamesh was vexed So they both, Bring it on and you can guess what happened next The main event was on. They hit and bit and punched and scratched all through the night It seemed they evenly were matched, an epic fight They both gave up, the battle ends and they decide to be best friends Thinking it ...

The Epic of Gilgamesh Prologue (Summary for Full Story)

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from Mesopotamia and is among the earliest known works of literary writing. Scholars believe that it originated as a series of Sumerian legends and poems about the mythological hero-king Gilgamesh, which were gathered into a longer Akkadian poem much later; the most complete version existing today is preserved on 12 clay tablets in the library collection of the 7th century BC Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. It was originally titled He who Saw the Deep (Sha naqba īmuru) or Surpassing All Other Kings (Shūtur eli sharrī). Gilgamesh might have been a real ruler in the late Early Dynastic II period (ca. 27th century BC).[1] The essential story revolves around the relationship between Gilgamesh, who has become distracted and disheartened by his rule, and a friend, Enkidu, who is half-wild and who undertakes dangerous quests with Gilgamesh. Much of the epic focuses on Gilgamesh's thoughts of loss following Enkidu's death. It is about their becoming human together, and has a high emphasis on immortality. A large portion of the poem illustrates Gilgamesh's search for and failure to gain immortality after Enkidu's death. The story is widely read in translation, and the protagonist, Gilgamesh, has become an icon of popular culture.
Gilgamesh and Metacognition

Gilgamesh is a truly ancient story, and it has our philosopher musing on the use of "thinking about thinking" in fiction. Prof Gregory Currie is speaking.

The Epic of Gilgamesh

This is the oldest written story known to man set to the tune of "American Pie" by Don McLean. It's not my best performance, a little high and a couple of mistakes ... some flat notes here and there ... but I'm too lazy to do it right. Sue me. Long, long time ago, in a land between two streams Lived a guy named Gilgamesh In ancient Uruk he began 2/3 god and 1/3 man Goddess mom and dad made of frail flesh Was he fake or really born? True, or just cuneiform? His tale is rather gory In mankind's oldest story. So listen to the tale I tell Of gods and monsters, death and hell And how his friend, Enkidu, fell, Once upon a time .... Cry, cry, Gilgamesh you must die. You will never live forever like the gods in the sky. You can't cheat death no matter how you might try So kiss the land of living goodbye. Kiss the land of living goodbye. The people cried out to the gods 'Cause Gilgamesh made 'em work to hard The Anunaki heard their pleas Far from Uruk of the walls 'Midst the woods and the waterfalls Enkidu came about among the trees A human beast when he was born With hairy hide and head of horn Wrestled bears and lions And beat them barely tryin' A priestess came and as she neared She looked and thought that he was weird She cut his horns and shaved his beard And then they went to town (Chorus) The two men met and muscles flexed You can guess what happened next They began an epic fight Though they punched and bit and scratched It seemed they evenly were matched Although they ...

Gilgamesh - Not with standing (1975)

One of the premier bands to feature on the Canterbury scene, GILGAMESH was led by the extraordinary keyboardist Alan Gowan, before his premature death. The music is very intricate, and of course keyboard oriented. The first album is quite an excellent fusion prog effort with lots of great synth work from Gowan. recommended to fans of NATIONAL HEALTH or HATFIELD AND THE NORTH.

Battle with Gilgamesh - Final Fantasy V, Mario Paint

By popular demand, it's finally here! This is the music that plays when you fight Gilgamesh. Themusic was recreated with Mario Paint Composer. Well, I FINALLY found a piece of good sheet music for this song. Suprisingly, this one wasn't as technically challenging as I thought it would be. It sounds hard, but it's just really a lot of notes going really really fast. I even had an opportunity to use the program's volume control to fade the music a little bit towards the end, so I was happy with that. If you're interested in other pre-PS2 Final Fantasy music, I plan on recreating a lot more, so please feel free to subscribe to my videos. Also, if you have any specific FF requests, I'd be happy to take them, assuming I can find an mp3 and sheet music of the tune. Thanks for watching.

I had to draw the line somewhere to keep a reasonable length. - Gilgamesh doesn't appear in the original FF game, but he was added later in the remakes, so in the video he goes. - There's a guy named Gigameth in FFIII. Close, but no cigar. - In the US release of FFIV (GBA), there is a monster named Gilgamesh, but this is a mistranslation, so it doesn't count. - The FFV segment runs pretty long, but it's the only title where ol' Gilgy plays a fairly major role, so I was quite thorough. - The FFVI version only appears in the GBA/onward remake.
