Emirates B777-300ER go-around at Glasgow Airport

Saturday 21st January 2012 was a blustery day at Glasgow Airport with a strong crosswind. We'd assembled to catch the final batch of transiting Moroccan Texans leaving for Bordeaux in France. The only other movement worthy of our attention was the 11:44 EK27 flight from Dubai. Little did we know the last minute drama that was about to unfold as the giant jumbo turned the power on following a dose of windshear and performed a "go around", landing safely at the second attempt..

Glasgow Film Festival - Gene Kelly flashmob at Glasgow Airport

Travellers at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday 14 February 2012 were treated to an unexpected dance routine reminiscent of quintessential song'n'dance man Gene Kelly, ahead of the retrospective of his films at Glasgow Film Festival. The flashmob entertained passengers with a version of the legendary Singin' in the Rain dance, which made Kelly an icon. Gene Kelly was one of the greatest all-round talents ever to tap-dance his way across the silver screen. Kelly left an indelible impression on the movies as an actor, director and choreographer which can be seen during Glasgow Film Festival 2012 in all-time classics like Anchors Aweigh (1945), The Pirate (1948), Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949), On the Town (1949), An American in Paris (1951), Singin' in the Rain (1952), Brigadoon (1954) and Hello, Dolly (1969) from 18--26 February. The Gene Kelly retrospective is one of nineteen strands at Glasgow Film Festival 2012, which runs from 16 -- 26 February. Join us on facebook here: www.facebook.com Subscribe here: www.youtube.com www.facebook.com Having visited several abandoned places we decided to visit "the city of the dead" also known as the Glasgow Necropolis. The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. It is on a low but very prominent hill to the east of Glasgow Cathedral (St. Mungo's Cathedral). Fifty thousand individuals have been buried here. Typically for the period only a small percentage are named on monuments and not every grave has a stone. Approximately 3500 monuments exist here. Predating the cemetery, the statue of John Knox sitting on a column at the top of the hill, dates from 1825. Alexander Thomson designed a number of its tombs, and John Bryce and David Hamilton designed other architecture for the grounds. en.wikipedia.org Music is by The Northern Hemisphere - Sunshade Recored with a Canon 600d / Panasonic SD60. 2012 Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art - Jeremy Deller 'Sacrilege'

Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art (20 April 2012 -- 7 May 2012) launched today with the unveiling of Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller's major new artwork Sacrilege. Situated on Glasgow Green, Sacrilege was revealed as a full-scale, inflatable replica of Stonehenge, one of the UK's most recognisable heritage sites. The ambitious new sculptural installation in the form of a magnificent bouncy castle is characteristic of Deller's on-going exploration of contemporary culture and continues the Festival's commitment to presenting engaging works in the public realm. Sacrilege is Deller's first major public project in Scotland and has been commissioned by GI Festival 2012 in collaboration with the Mayor of London and with investment from Creative Scotland. With funding from Arts Council England Sacrilege will also travel to different locations in the UK this June, before being shown in London this summer as part of CREATE and the London 2012 festival. GI 2012 runs from 20 April to 7 May. For more information visit www.glasgowinternational.org

www.abandonedscotland.com http Subscribe here: www.youtube.com Like The Eternal Twilight here: www.facebook.com Listen to more of their excellent music here: theternaltwilight.bandcamp.com Our first proper explore of the year saw us visit an old biscuit factory in the south side of Glasgow. Originally owned by Gray Dunn & Co the company was later taken over by Bisland Brothers Bakery and is the home of Blue Ribands and the Caramel Wafer (so we read anyway!). The building is fairly large and if you're a regular driver of the M8 motorway you've probably driven passed it without realising what it was. Unfortunately each floor has been fairly gutted which leaves some massive open spaces. Music is by The Eternal Twilight - Every Morning The Sun Shines After You...
