Stir very well until sticky & heavy. • Bake about 30-35 minutes, stirring at 20 minutes, then check every 5 minutes. Homemade Granola


Yields: 10 to 12 servings Ingredients: 4 cups rolled oats ¾ cup wheat germ ¾ cup flaxseed meal ½ cup sunflower seeds 1½ cups almonds, walnuts, and pecans, coarsely chopped ¾ tsp. salt ¼ cup brown sugar 2 tbsp. maple syrup ½ cup honey ½ cup olive oil 1 ½ tsp. cinnamon 1 ½ tsp. vanilla 1 cup dried cranberries Preparation Directions: ~ Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray 2 baking sheets with cooking spray or line with parchment paper. ~ In a large bowl combine, oats, wheat germ, flaxseed meal, sunflower seeds, nuts; mix well. ~ In a saucepan combine salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon and vanilla; bring to a boil over medium heat. Pour over oat mixture and toss to coat. Spread mixture evenly on baking sheets. ~ Bake 20 minutes or until toasted a golden brown. Stir once halfway through baking. Cool. Stir in cranberries.

Betty's Healthy and Natural Granola Bars Recipe


In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Healthy and Natural Granola Bars. These granola bars have oats, nuts, brown sugar, honey, melted butter, and a sprinkling of salt--all natural ingredients--no additives that you find in commercial cereal bars. Betty also gives her philosophy of eating healthy foods. Ingredients: 4 cups quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked 1 cup chopped nuts (I used 1/3 cup sliced almonds, 1/3 cup chopped pecans, and 1/3 cup English walnuts.) 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup butter or margarine, melted 1/3 cup light corn syrup (You may use honey.) 1/2 teaspoon salt cooking oil spray Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, and mix well. Press into a 15 1/4-inch by 10 1/2-inch jelly roll pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. (Mixture will be brown and bubbly. I cooked my granola bars 10 minutes in this demonstration, but they were a little over-brown; 8 minutes would have been better.) Cool. Cut into bars and serve on a serving plate or store in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks. They stay fresh for a very long time! These granola bars contain *only* healthy ingredients and are a great choice over a candy bar, which generally has no nutritional value! They taste great, also! Here's the recipe for a single batch, but you'll wish you would have doubled it! *** Update *** My father, who lives in Texas, called after viewing this video and said he thought I should put some granola in the mail to him. KATZCRADUL'S GRANOLA 6 cups old fashioned oatmeal 1 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup raw sesame seeds 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup powdered milk 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 cup coconut 1 cup honey 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups nuts/seeds, (optional) any combination (walnuts, pecans, almonds, sunflower seeds) 1 cup dried fruit, cut into small pieces (optional) Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Mix all dry ingredients together except for nut/seeds. Put honey and oil in a microwave safe dish, and microwave for about 30 seconds until honey is easily pourable. Add vanilla to the honey/oil combination, and pour over dry ingredients. Stir until combined. If you are using pecans, you can add them now. If you are using almonds, add them the last 15 minutes of cooking time, or they will burn. Stir every 15 minutes until golden brown. It could take as long as one hour. Cool granola on pans, stirring occasionally, to break up large pieces. When cool, stir in dried fruit, if desired. Store in a covered container. Granola can be sealed in canning jars for long term storage.

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Chocolate Cranberry Granola. This is granola made of oats, chocolate, dried cranberries, and a variety of nuts, bound together with sweetened condensed milk. This is a high-energy food that I hope you will enjoy! Ingredients: 1 ½ cups old fashioned oats 1 ½ cups instant oats ¾ cup wheat germ ½ cup slivered almonds ½ cup chopped pecans ½ cup English walnuts ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips ¾ cup dried cranberries 21 ounces sweetened condensed milk (1 ½ 14-ounce cans) cooking oil spray In a large bowl, mix 1 ½ cups old fashioned oats,1 ½ cups instant oats, ¾ cup wheat germ, ½ cup slivered almonds, ½ cup chopped pecans, ½ cup English walnuts, ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, ¾ cup dried cranberries, and 21 ounces sweetened condensed milk. Pour into a large baking pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil spray. Bake at 325 degrees (F) about 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing clumps of granola to form. You may alternatively make this mix into granola bars by pressing the mixture into a prepared baking pan. When granola is golden, remove from oven and place in a serving bowl. Cool. If you are making granola bars, cut bars into desired size and cool on platter. This granola can be stored in an airtight container for a week or frozen for use as desired. www.rawdawgrory.com Raw Granola Recipe~ 3 parts of coarsely ground nuts and seeds (we like buckwheat!) that have been soaked and dehydrated to reduce enzyme inhibitors. 1 Part "Slurry" Which can be a combination of any dried fruits that tickle your fancy (raisins, dates, figs, cranberries), processed with a lil' water, honey or agave, cinnamon (optional) and a pinch of salt. To this I like to blend in some fresh fruit such as aples,but experiment with whatever sounds yummy to you! Combine everything thoroughly by handmixing and spread the mixture with a spatula onto your dehydrator trays and allow to dry for about 36-48 hours. I say dehydrate until crunchy, but I'll go further into that by saying they won't feel 100% crunchy while they're warm in the dehydrator. When you remove them to cool they'll really crisp up and always be sure to allow any of your dehydrated goodies to cool to room temp before storing to retain crispness because while warm they're still releasing moisture and if ya seal them up it'll be trapped and you're goodies won't be as crunchy! :0)

Saving Money - Sun Oven Granola Bars


Katzcradul's electric bill is increasing by $63 next month! She demonstrates how to make granola bars in her Sun Oven...just one way to save on energy costs. Her family loves these bars, and she loves that there's no additives or preservatives in them. They're loaded with heart healthy fiber and with the addition of fruit and nuts...protein and vitamins too! Shhhhh! Don't tell the kids. GRANOLA BARS 2 cups old fashioned oats (not quick oats) 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup wheat germ 1 cup whole wheat flour 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup oil (or 1/4 cup oil + 1/4 cup applesauce) 1/2 cup honey 1 egg 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/3 cup nuts, chopped 1/3 cup raisins, chopped Mix dry ingredients. Mix wet ingredients together and then stir into dry ingredients. Pat into pan that's been greased or sprayed with a release agent. Bake in a sun oven that been preheated to at least 250 degrees. Bake until edges are just slightly brown. (Should not take more than about 50 minutes.) Bake in a traditional oven at 350 degree for 18-25 minutes Slice while still warm. When cooled, store in an airtight container, or vacuum seal in jars or bags. Variations: dehydrated apples with walnuts and cinnamon dried dates with pecans and grated orange zest dried apricots with sliced almonds (substitute almond extract for vanilla) dried cranberries with walnuts Other nice additions: coconut, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, peanut butter

Betty & Deborah Roberts Make Granola Bars for 20/20 in bettyskitchen--RAW FOOTAGE!


In this video, Betty makes granola bars with Deborah Roberts, a correspondent from the ABC News television show, 20/20. The recipe for the granola bars is below: Ingredients: 4 cups quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked 1 cup chopped nuts (I used 1/3 cup chopped almonds, 1/3 cup chopped pecans, and 1/3 cup chopped English walnuts.) 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup butter or margarine, melted 1/3 cup honey 1/2 teaspoon salt cooking oil spray Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, and mix well. Press into a 15 1/4-inch by 10 1/2-inch jelly roll pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. (Mixture will be brown and bubbly.) Cool. Cut into bars and serve on a serving plate or store in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks. They stay fresh for a very long time! These granola bars contain *only* healthy ingredients and are a great choice over a candy bar, which generally has no nutritional value! They taste great, also! I hope you get a chance to try them!!!
