The Great Dictator - speech

www.hanlonsrazor.org This is the climax to the 1940 Charlie Chaplin film "The Great Dictator". While not completely applicable to anything today, I still find it very moving. Interestingly enough, I notice that whoever is president, commenters tell me this speech does apply today! Use it against Bush, use it against Obama. Clearly this IS a universal message.
The Great Dictator *HD* - Part 1 of 1

This is the story of the period between two world wars--an interim during which insanity cut loose, liberty took a nose dive, and humanity was kicked around somewhat." With this pithy opening title, Charles Chaplin begins his first all-talking feature film, The Great Dictator. During World War I, a Jewish barber (Chaplin) in the army of Tomania saves the life of high-ranking officer Schultz (Reginald Gardiner). While Schultz survives the conflict unscathed, the barber is stricken with amnesia and bundled off to a hospital. Twenty years pass: Tomania has been taken over by dictator Adenoid Hynkel (Chaplin again) and his stooges Garbitsch (Henry Daniell) and Herring (Billy Gilbert). Hynkel despises all Jews and regularly wreaks havoc on the Tomanian Jewish ghetto, where feisty Hannah (Paulette Goddard) lives. Meanwhile, the little barber escapes from the hospital and instinctively heads back to his cobweb-laden ghetto barber shop. Unaware of Hynkel's policy towards Jews (in fact, he's unaware of Hynkel), the barber gets into a slapstick confrontation with a gang of Aryan storm troopers. He is rescued by his old friend Schultz, now one of Hynkel's most loyal officers. Thanks to Schultz's protection, the ghetto receives a brief respite from Hynkel's persecution. The barber sets up shop again, developing a warm platonic relationship with the lovely Hannah. But things take a sorry turn when Hynkel, angered that a Jewish banker has refused to finance his impending war with ...

The Great Dictator - Speech (Charlie Chaplin) & Inception Soundtrack - Time (Hans Zimmer)

First, I want to thank Charlie Chaplin for his magnificent performance here, his mimic and gestures are simply overwhelming. I want to thank everyone who was involved in creating this movie, and especially this timeless, brilliant and heartrending final speech (70 years ago!). Second, I want to thank Hans Zimmer for this beautiful and epic song. A song that brings tears to my eyes and a smile on my face at the same time, everytime I listen to it. Finally, I am thankful for the very moment I had the idea to combine these two masterpieces of art. Together they conjure hope to my mind, courage to my heart. There are no cuts. Speech and song just fit great together. I only decreased the volume of the music a bit in the later parts so it does not cover the speech that much, as some of you noted. My favorite moment is at ~2:30, the camera zooms on Chaplin's face... "... but in all men, in you! You, the people have the power! The power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people have the power, to make this life free and beatiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure! ..." Inconceivably awesome. I love it. Thanks a lot for the comments and inputs of the old (out-of-sync) version & enjoy the new one! (I do not own any copyrights of the used material)

The Great Dictator Final Speech + Time by Hans Zimmer (HD)

I have seen some of these inspiring videos, but some are out of sync and all are not full HD so I set out to fix that. I wanted to keep emphasis on the words of the speech blending nicely with the music a little softer and wanted to keep the 4:3 aspect ratio; the only edits I did was raising the volume of both the video and the audio to reach broadcast safe audio levels and faded out slowly at the end. The end titles are the original beginning titles of the film lengthened out and muted. Also delved into a little bit of slight surround sound which is most notable when the soldiers cheer at the end of the speech. Ripped from a blu-ray copy of The Great Dictator. Music from Inception Soundtrack in MP3 format at 320kbps (wish I could've used FLAC). Edited (and my first time editing) in Final Cut Pro X (actually isn't that bad of a program) and exported with H.264 and AAC compression for a smaller file size. Credit goes to the great Charlie Chaplin and Hans Zimmer's score. Inspired by other videos such as "Let Us All Unite!" which was inspired by [Peop1e], Reddit, and 4chan.

Pinky and the Brain - The Really Great Dictator

In these chaotic times, it's easy to forget who the true Lords and Masters of our Saturday Mornings once were. The unforgettable words of Pinky and the Brain remain poignant and relevant, even a decade after their final farewell. Lyrics (courtesy of SBAnimaniacs & myself): Noreaga, Genghis Khan, Saddam Hussein, and me the Brain, we all have this one thing in common: we are into world domination. (It's a new sensation, try it and you'll feel elation.) It's the gift to give the guy who wants everything. (Military takeovers!) Governmental makeovers! (Coup de tête will be confined!) It keeps your junta occupied. Look here at this dotted line, as overlord, I could combine and make this all one sovereign state. (Oh, Overlord, you are so great!) I'll sew up this divided planet. My regime will surely span it. (Yummy, Spam! Oh, will you can it? No, Pinky you will.) I'll learn the language if I must. (You will gain the people's trust.) I'll let them join my coterie. (And you can buy their loyalty.) There are several formulae I like to use for domination, and to get the maximum effect out of a helpless nation. Crabmeat or magnetic shoes, mind-controlling pink tutus, or a giant signal tower to telecast my mental power. Think big, not small! (Dominoes will start to fall!) and then I can, be the mouse who conquers man. So, if you have a calculator, you can be a great dictator. Let each country that you covet equal X. (You're gonna love it!) Multiply by Y not try it, if the people ...
