French police have officially confirmed the suspected serial killer Mohamed Merah is dead after a 32 hour siege ended in grenade explosions and gunfire. The gunman had jumped out of the bathroom window still shooting as police broke through, and was found dead where he fell. Three police commandos were wounded in the raid on the suspect's flat, one of them seriously. Merah, a 23-year-old French citizen of Algerian origin claimed association with Al-Qaeda, and confessed to killing four people outside a Jewish school and three French soldiers in separate attacks in the Toulouse region. French Gunman Siege: 'EU must turn Islamisation clock back'
French police are still surrounding the home of the gunman suspected of killing three Jewish schoolchildren, a rabbi and three paratroopers around Toulouse. The Interior ministry has denied previous reports of his arrest. President Sarkozy is in Toulouse and was attending the funerals of the murdered soldiers at a nearby military base. The suspect, named as Mohammed Merah, is reported to be a French national of Algerian origin, and claims he belongs to al-Qaeda and acted to "avenge Palestinian children". Police say the suspect was planning to strike again and have detained several members of his family, including his brother and mother. Meanwhile, early Wednesday morning the bodies of four victims of the shooting were flown to Israel, where their funerals took place in Jerusalem. Seven dead as university gunman opens fire
The death toll from a university gun rampage continues to climb, with as many as seven people are now dead and several others injured following a shooting spree at a private religious college outside San Francisco. Heavily armed police swarmed into Oikos University in Oakland, California, where the gunman launched his assault in a classroom about 10.30am local time. A suspect has since been arrested. The suspect has been identified by San Francisco news station KTVU as former Oikos student One Goh, an American citizen of Korean origin. Police believe he was the sole shooter. A source close to the investigation told The San Francisco Chronicle Goh was 43 and from Oakland. The suspect allegedly sprayed the classroom with bullets from a .45-calibre handgun, before firing more shots as he fled the scene. The source said Goh had been a nursing student at Oikos University but became involved in a dispute which is believed to have resulted in him being suspended from at least one class. One victim who was shot in the arm said the gunman told his former classmates to line up against a wall before pulling out the weapon, causing the students to flee in terror. Dawinder Kaur, a 19-year-old nursing student who suffered a gunshot wound near her elbow, told her family that the gunman had been a student in her class but had been absent for months before returning on Monday, the Oakland Tribune reported. Police Hostage Situation with Crazy Gunman using Shotgun in Honolulu, Hawaii
This video was taken from World's Scariest Police Shootouts 2. The clip is of a hostage crisis that happened in Honolulu, Hawaii. On Tuesday, February 6th, 1996, John Miranda, 28, entered his former place of employment armed with a 12-gauge shotgun. One week earlier he had murdered his own girlfriend. He then forced five employees to lie on the floor. Police arrived around 45 minutes later as Miranda shot his former boss, Guy George in the leg. He then dragged George to the window to show the police what he had done. George later escaped through a window by falling 15ft. to the ground. After this Miranda became enraged and left the building with the remaining hostages. He took one hostage, Tom McNeil, and taped the end of the shotgun to the back of his head and tapes his own fingers to the trigger. As he left the building SWAT moved in and surrounded him. The other hostages escaped but Miranda kept McNeil held hostage for over 6 hours. Finally Miranda took McNeil down to the street and ordered him to count down from sixty seconds to zero and then Miranda would execute him. When McNeil refused, Miranda started counting down for him. When he reached thirteen seconds, McNeil span around and fought with the gunman and SWAT opened fire and killed Miranda. McNeil was saved and only suffered minor injuries. OAKLAND — Six people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting Monday at an Asian Christian vocational school near the Oakland Coliseum; police later detained the suspected gunman. Authorities received a 911 call around 10:30 am reporting the multiple shootings at the Oikos University building at 7850 Edgewater Drive in east Oakland. "We do know we have fatalities, this is still a very active and fluid situation," Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson told reporters at the scene. "I can confirm that we do believe we have detained an individual responsible for the shooting at the college." Oakland City Council President Larry Reid told KCBS that six people had died. The wounded were being treated at Highland Hospital's trauma center, spokeswoman Jerri Randrup said, but their conditions could not be provided.
