Handel - Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus

From Andre Rieu's "Live From Radio City Music Hall" in New York City 2004, with the Johann Strauss Orchestra and the Harlem Gospel Choir. Though heavily romanticized, it is one of the best renditions of this magnificent piece, in this one's opinion. LYRICS: Hallelujah hallelujah...

Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks 1/2 (Ouverture)

Very moving performance on 23 august 1991 of Handels Music for the Royal Fireworks by a huge baroque band on period instruments, consisting of 24 oboes, 16 bassoons, 1 contra-bassoon, 9 trumpets, 9 horns, 3 pairs of timpani and 5 drums, conducted by Robert King. The Ouverture is enlightened in this broadcast by the BBC by a dramatization in paper cut-outs of the events at the very first performance during which because of the improperly handled fireworks the concert pavillion was burned down. The recording with my old Telefunken machine has a slightly overmodulated sound, but it is not too disturbing and does not harm the overall grandioseness and beautiful splendor of the performance.

It is equally beautiful as it is important. It is the first film to ever address the real cause of our environmental crisis: human disconnection from nature. And instead of just proposing a solution, the film immerses us in it, by reawakening our innate love for the natural world! Visit the following link to view the trailer and if it moves you as it did me, please consider making a contribution on their Love Thy Nature website. Handel - Messiah "He was despised" Alfred Deller

Hi-res & stereo: www.youtube.com George Frideric Handel Messiah, HWV 56 (1741) Oratorio in three acts Aria #23: "He Was Despised" From act 2, aria for Alto solo libretto by Charles Jennens Messiah (HWV 56) is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel based on a libretto by Charles Jennens. Composed in the summer of 1741 and premiered in Dublin on the 13 April 1742, Messiah is Handel's most famous creation and is among the most popular works in the Western choral literature. The very well known chorus, Hallelujah, is part of Handel's Messiah. Handel composed Messiah in just 24 days. Handel conducted Messiah many times and, as was his custom, often altered the music to suit the needs of the singers and orchestra he had available to him for each performance. In consequence, no single version can be regarded as the "authentic" one. Many more variations and rearrangements were added in subsequent centuries—a notable arrangement was one by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, translated into German. Messiah is scored for SATB soloists, SATB chorus, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, timpani, strings, and basso continuo. The Mozart arrangement expands the orchestra to 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, strings, and organ. The libretto was compiled by Charles Jennens and consists of fragments of verses from the King James Bible.
