Hannah Peel, opening for David Ford at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds 04 07 10. Blue Monday cover (New Order) How does it feel To treat me like you do When you've laid laid your hands upon me And told me who you are I thought I was mistaken I thought I heard your words Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how do I feel Those who came before me Lived through their vocations From the past until completion They will turn away no more And I still find it so hard To say what I need to say But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me Just how I should feel today I see a ship in the harbor I can and shall obey But if it wasn't for your misfortunes I'd be a heavenly person today And I thought I was mistaken And I thought I heard you speak Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how should I feel Now I stand here waiting I thought I told you to leave me While I walked down to the beach Tell me how does it feel When your heart grows cold (grows cold, grows cold, grows cold) [ LYRICS www.AZLyrics.com ]

Hannah Peel - "Cailin Deas Cruite Na Mbo" - The Crypt Sessions: Season 2, Episode 3

www.thecryptsessions.com This week's Crypt Session comes from Hannah Peel. And folkin' marvellous it is too. Here at the Crypt, we love a bit of folk music. But such has been the magnitude of the genre explosion in Blighty over recent years that, from Tescos to Toyota adverts, you can barely escape the sound of one ethereally-voiced sylkie or another strumming whistfully on a mandolin and pining for the fjords. Let's be honest, it's getting hard to tell them apart. Liverpudlian multi-instrumentalist Hannah Peel stands out from the crowd. Hailed by Drowned In Sound as 'a genuine creative force in British folk music', Hannah breathes new life into the genre. Her magical debut album, The Broken Wave, elevates a neo-folk sensibility with sophisticated song structures, adventurous instrumentations and a pop mogul's appreciation of a great tune. As Q magazine put it, her songs are 'inventively arranged, sweet without being cloying [and] there's just the right hint of weirdness and mystery lurking beneath the fragile folk pop surface...in a word, charming.' Sporting collaborations with the likes of Tunng's Mike Lindsay and Nitin Sawhney, The Broken Wave has already garnered four star reviews from Uncut, Mojo and Q and prompted The Sunday Independent, The Irish Times, Mojo and Narc to flag Hannah as 'One To Watch' in 2011. How right they are. The Broken Wave is released today, 31st January. For more information, visit Hannah's MySpace page - www.myspace.com

Hannah Peel - Blue Monday

One of Hannah's many quirky talents is to take the essense of 80's songs and adapt them for her "music box" - you might say "the '80s UnPeeled" She confessed that a year ago she had only one original song - amazing then that this occasion was the launch of her startlingly unique and beautiful album "The Broken Wave" ! You can download/buy from iTunes, Amazon - but best of all see her on tour live and buy it there!

Hannah Peel - Don't Kiss The Broken One

Some good videos around and rave reviews for this extraordinary first full album from Hannah Peel "The Broken Wave". The audio was excellent at Rough Trade East and this is one of my favorite tracks (although I have ten favourites!) The off-centre syncopations, folky roots, unusual instruments and beautiful vocals live up to the "Wonky pop Folk" description perfectly. Also nice to get a better view of the band and the lovely backing vocals of Laura Groves

Hannah Peel and Laura Groves - Sugar Hiccup

The Foxtrot festival at Stanmer House in Brighton is the perfect venue for the exquisite musical talents and always elegant and beautiful pairing of Hannah Peel and Laura Groves (aka Blue Roses). The Cocteau Twins 'Sugar Hiccup' is from Hannah's 'Rebox' album of 80's covers for music box. Their harmonies are a pure delight and the performances of the girls together in general are best summed up in a one word review I saw describing them - "Enchanting"

Hannah Peel - Cailin Deas Cruite Na Mbo

Hannah Peel's cover of the traditional 18th-century Irish Ballad Cailin Deas Cruite Na Mbo. Alternative singer/songwriter Hannah Peel combines music box loops and obscure samples with a love of vintage violins and rusty pianos to create a sound self-described as wonky folk-pop. Born in Northern Ireland, she began her musical career playing the fiddle in her father's band, and at the age of 18, she attended Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, where she developed her violin, trombone, and piano skills. Following session work for Sandi Thom, she became a backing musician for Easyworld's David Ford and the Unthanks, composed the score for theater production King Cotton, and led the 13-piece Kinetic Fallacy on a headline slot at the Big Chill Festival. Following support from BBC 6 Music DJs Marc Riley and Stuart Maconie, she released an '80s covers EP, Rebox, and began work on her debut album. Produced by Tunng's Mike Lindsay and with strings arranged by Nitin Sawhney, The Broken Wave was released through Static Caravan Records in 2011.

Who is Geoff Dolman? Exactly. One man, one label, over 100 artists and now over 200 releases. And hardly anyone has met him. What does he do for his day job? Some say a scientist. No one really knows. Hannah Peel documents all the static caravan artists and friends she met over the course of her touring summer and winter 2010 - To find out more about the enigma of Geoff Dolman and his cult 10 year label, Static Caravan, which has been a starting point for many current artists of today. Sometimes I feel I've got to Run away I've got to Get away From the pain that you drive into the heart of me The love we share Seems to go nowhere And I've lost my light For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night (chorus) Once I ran to you (I ran) Now I'll run from you This tainted love you've given I give you all a boy could give you Take my tears and that's not nearly all Oh...tainted love Tainted love Now I know I've got to Run away I've got to Get away You don't really want IT any more from me To make things right You need someone to hold you tight And you'LL think love is to pray But I'm sorry I don't pray that way (chorus...) Hannah's amazing 'Broken Wave' album is a tough act to follow but my goodness - eagerly awaiting her second album if the touching delicacy of her new song 'regret' is anything to go by - it's as heartbreakingly good as my current favourite Broken Wave track 'Solitude'. Duke Special & Hannah Peel - Save a Prayer

Have never seen Hannah Peel need a lyric sheet before, but in this case, not only was she a surprise guest for the audience but surprised herself as she was only asked if she was available for this Wilton's benefit gig a couple of hours before the doors opened! Lack of time memorising Duran Duran lyrics aside, her bell-clear voice in harmony with Duke's soft dulcet tones is quite simply divine. Visually there's something almost Chaplinesque in the contrast of Duke's hobo-chic image and her elegant figure against the grand piano in the setting of historic Wilton's Music Hall. A truly memorable duet and hoping they sing together again soon!

David Ford, Song For The Road feat Hannah Peel

David Ford feat Hannah Peel Pocklington Arts Festival 08 08 10 Song For The Road well the day cast down lengthy shadows on unfamiliar towns and i drove 300 miles from the place i call home and i tipped my hat to the angel of the north and the sun, it set fire to the heavens on the hills over sheffield tonight and i will sail over this countryside with new friends and old we are nowhere but man, we're alright so you can keep your belief in whatever and i'll wear my cynicism like a tattoo and while poets try to engineer definitions of love oh you know that all i can think of is you and i just can't wait to see you on sunday far from the traffic and the smoke and the noise but for this evening i will play back every message that you sent so i can sleep to the sound of your voice oh now i don't lightly use words like forever but i will love you 'til the end of today and in the morning when i remember everything that you are well i know i'll fall for you over again now i know someday this all will be over and it's hard to say what most will i miss just give me one way to spend my last moments alive and i choose this, i choose this, i choose this i choose this, i choose this, i choose this i choose this, i choose this, yeah i choose... this www.davidford.mu/lyrics.php?lyricID=21
