Hemingway - The Old Man and the Sea - documentary excerpt

readings from the novella, plus interviews with folks from Cuba who knew Papa back in the day, including Ernesto Garcia Gutierrez. from the documentary " Ernest Hemingway: Rivers to the Sea" originally aired on TV as part of PBS series "American Masters" readings by Kate Burton and James Naughton Directed by DeWitt Sage Tom Stoppard wrote: One gets badly bitten by writers perhaps only two or three times, between the ages of eight and 18. The first passion I remember was for a boys' stories writer, Arthur Ransome, when I was eight. I remember writing Runyon short stories in my teens, and a couple of Truman Capote short stories after I had left school, but I don't think I got thoroughly bitten again until I was about 20, late for Hemingway. The general influence of Hemingway's style is, of course, much more pervasive than that of, say, Runyon or Capote. It seems much simpler to copy. Writers have been trying to copy it for over half a century now.

In theaters: December 10th, 2010 Genre: Drama Official Site: www.gardenofedenmovie.com Director John Irvin Cast: Jack Huston, Mena Suvari, Richard E. Grant, Caterina Murino, Carmen Maura, Matthew Modine Writers: James Scott Linville Run Time: 98 minutes Synopsis: David Bourne (JACK HUSTON), a promising American novelist now living in Paris, meets the volatile and seductive Catherine (MENA SUVARI) and immediately falls under her spell. After a whirlwind romance they set off for their honeymoon on the Cote d'Azur. David is increasingly distracted from his writing by Catherine's sexual liberation and erotic role-playing. As David struggles to control his emotions, Catherine raises the erotic tension by bringing David a "present" in the form of the sultry Marita (CATERINA MURINO), an Italian heiress, who provokes excitement and jealousy in both David and Catherine. As he becomes a pawn between the two manipulative women, David retreats into his writing, re-creating the story of his relationship with his father, a charismatic big-game hunter (MATTHEW MODINE). As jealous as she is of Marita, Catherine is even more obsessively envious of David's success as a writer, especially if his stories do not involve her. Catherine becomes vindictive and her dangerous, erotic game-playing only serves to drive David into Marita's arms.

Ernest Hemingway in Midnight in Paris

"All men fear death. It's a natural fear that consumes us all. We fear death because we feel that we haven't loved well enough or loved at all, which ultimately are one and the same. However, when you make love with a truly great woman, one that deserves the utmost respect in this world and one that makes you feel truly powerful, that fear of death completely disappears. Because when you are sharing your body and heart with a great woman the world fades away. You two are the only ones in the entire universe. You conquer what most lesser men have never conquered before, you have conquered a great woman's heart, the most vulnerable thing she can offer to another. Death no longer lingers in the mind. Fear no longer clouds your heart. Only passion for living, and for loving, become your sole reality. This is no easy task for it takes insurmountable courage. But remember this, for that moment when you are making love with a woman of true greatness you will feel immortal. "

Unscripted: Mariel Hemingway

She kissed a girl. The granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, Mill Valley, California native Mariel Hemingway earned an Oscar nomination as Woody Allen's age-inappropriate love interest in Manhattan -- but it was her performance as a bisexual athlete in the 1982 feature Personal Best that really got people talking. She delivered more girl-on-girl action in a now-famous 1994 episode of the sitcom Roseanne, when she planted a kiss on the lips of star Roseanne Barr. These days, Hemingway is equally well known for her work off-screen, promoting wellness and healthy living.

Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962) Trailer

Ernest Hemingway's semi-autobiographical "Nick Adams stories" formed the basis for this epic-length 1962 tribute to the master storyteller, with Richard Beymer ('West Side Story') as Nick and, amidst a star-studded supporting cast, Paul Newman in a Golden Globe nominated performance as the punch-drunk ex-prizefighter known as The Battler. Before Hemingway could write about life, he had to live it to the fullest - as does his fictional persona, the teenager Nick Adams (Beymer), who leaves his Michigan lake country home on foot in 1916 to learn about life and love and death. Nick's journey of discovery commences with run-ins with a brutal train brakeman and the half crazed Battler (Newman); takes him to New York and then finally to World War I and Europe, where he receives his baptism of fire at the Italian front and finds romance with a hospital nurse, Rosanna (Susan Strasberg). Ricardo Montalban, Eli Wallach, Diane Baker, Dan Dailey, Jessica Tandy and Arthur Kennedy give vivid performances in this Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture - Drama, a story of adventure, of love, and of one man maturing through suffering as learns the laws of life. FBI Drove Ernest Hemingway to Suicide! - Alex Jones Tv

Jon Swaine The Telegraph July 5, 2011 AE Hotchner said he believed the FBI's monitoring of the Nobel Prize-winning author, over suspicions of his links to Cuba, "substantially contributed to his anguish and his suicide" 50 years ago. Hotchner wrote in The New York Times that he had "regretfully misjudged" his friend's fears of federal investigators, which were dismissed as paranoid delusions for years after his death. In 1983 the FBI released a 127-page file it had kept on Hemingway since the 1940s, confirming he was watched by agents working for J.
