I took part in the August 2010 Washington State IDPA Championship today and came in as the top Sharpshooter in the CDP Division. The courses were VERY elaborate, and challenging, especially the long range and prone stages. This is a brief introduction to What (IDPA) International Defensive Pistol Association is, the equipment, a quick overview of the rules and how the scoring works. Range Officer Commands: 1. Load and make ready 2. Shooter Ready 3. Standby (beep) 4. RO Warnings are: Stop, Muzzle, Finger or Cover 5. Unload & show clear 6. Slide forward 7. Hammer down (means pull the trigger) 8. Holster 9. Range is Safe (or Clear) Time Penalties: Procedural Error (doing something wrong) = 3 seconds Failure to Neutralize = 5 seconds Hit on non-threat target = 5 seconds (per target) Target miss (aka Mike) = 5 seconds Failure to do right (FTDR) = 20 seconds FTDR is when the competitor behaves or performs in a way not acceptable to the spirit of IDPA. One example could be dumping rounds in a target at a particular location of a stage in order to perform a more timely reload and obtain a competitive advantage. Tactical Priority: Slicing the pie or engaging targets as they become visible. Tactical Sequence: Targets that have equal threat are engaged with one round each and then followed up by additional rounds to neutralize them. Holster requirements: - to be mounted at the seam line of the pants - gun breech face must be at or above the center line of the belt - There must be no gap between the holster body and the belt. - Inside the waste band (IWB), pancake style, Bruce Nelson / Askins style or pouch style are all acceptable. - Holster must be used with a standard everyday belt. Oxford, NC IDPA Fun Match CDP Division Camo4x4s - 09/19/09 I have been shooting CDP class now for two years on and off. I just shot my first two major IDPA matches in Oxford. I have really come to enjoy the sport. It is a great stress reliever. I have shot about 40 matches in the past 2 years averaging 3rd place overall. Why do you shoot a 1911? I shoot a 1911 because they are classic guns dating back to the year 1911 and it is a disadvantage in competition because it holds fewer rounds which equals more mag changes which ultimately costs you more time and points. Competition shooting is like golf... The lowest score ranks first and the highest score places last. A 1911 also has a greater power factor and a wider diameter bullet if your shooting a .40 or .45 caliber which makes your hits easier to see on the targets. A 1911 is a model gun. It's patent ran out which means there are a wide variety of companies that produce the model 1911. A 1911 is endlessly customizable. You can literally build a 1911 by ordering aftermarket parts. Some of the best 1911 aftermarket parts are made by Caspin. I personally have a custom built 1911 9mm Caspin. In this particular video though, I'm shooting a Springfield Armory .45 caliber 1911. I like Springfield Armory because they come with a lifetime warranty incase you have a major problem with your gun.... send it in.... they will fix it for FREE. This is a great adrenaline pumping sport to prepare you for a possible once in a lifetime <b>...</b>

The NE Regionals took place at Harvard, MA, which included 16 stages and 200+ rounds. I shot relatively fast, but I decided to put in some comments for you guys to understand just how bad I really shot. For pretty much every stage that I did somewhat good in, I had mindless procedurals occur (totally my fault). Anyways, I absolutely loved the props. The match guys really went all out to make some creative stages. 3 stages were not filmed, including the 2 dark stages that I did not shoot due to time constraints. The next and last IDPA match I will be at this year is the CT state match...maybe by then I will learn how to follow directions! 8/20 NOTE: Checkout the rear sight in the end...didn't notice that until today hahaha.

2011 Florida State IDPA Championship hat-cam Here is my run at the match filmed with my Contour HD mounted to my hat. The stages are show (I think) in the order my squad shot them in. I'm using my Glock 35 with Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight. Holster is a Comp-tac and mag pouches were built by a friend of mine (more about those in an upcoming video). My first time shooting a revolver in the ESR Division with my Smith & Wesson 625 JM. it's a really fun gun to shoot. the recoil impulse is very different from a 1911 which I'm used to. The trigger is also something I have to practice more. I bombed pretty badly with like 18 points down on one stage (with the orange soft cover) because of my trigger control. Also, I had about 5 light primer strikes which I have to investigate. I think it's because of the trigger spring which I might have to tighten. Apart from that, It's FUN!!!

IDPA Diaries III: Glock 34's Abound! IDPA: The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), founded in 1996, is an organization based in Berryville, Arkansas, USA that promotes defensive pistol shooting as a sport, using equipment including full-charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in defensive pistol events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are deemed suitable for self-defense use. The sport came about as a response to many perceived shortcomings of competitions organized by the International Practical Shooting Confederation IPSC. It was decided by the founders of IDPA (Bill Wilson, John Sayle, Ken Hackathorn, Dick Thomas, Walt Rauch and Larry Vickers), which included some of the founders of IPSC, that IPSC competitions had become too far removed from the reality of defensive shooting situations, using extensively modified guns, handmade ammunition, and speed-draw holsters that were impractical for self-defense. The IDPA founders believed that IPSC matches had become "gun races," which were heavily dependent on equipment. That is, you had to have the latest gun, sighting equipment, and competition holster to be competitive. Since alterations to the sidearm are carefully regulated in IDPA, and magazine capacity is limited to a division-specific maximum of 10 rounds, it is possible to be competitive in IDPA with a greatly reduced outlay of money
