Charles Murray, one of America's most influential social policy thinkers, has come out with a widely discussed new book called Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, which argues that Americans are splitting into two divergent classes, and that this growing divide could end American life as we have known it. Released in 1980 on the Warner Brothers Records label, the song was originally recorded in 1979 while Troutman's group was part of George Clinton's Uncle Jam Records. When the label folded due to tensions Clinton had with Warner Brothers Records (his label dispute also ended the releases of Parliament and Funkadelic albums after 1981), Troutman and the group moved to sign with the parent label cutting ties with Clinton. In 1982, one of the most influential films in animation history received a 16bit digital stereo re-orchestration, under the arrangement and conducting of renowned composer Irwin Kostal, along with a 121-piece symphony orchestra and 50-voice choir. The soundtrack was available for a very limited time, compared to the life spans of other well-known Disney CDs; needless to say that this one version of FANTASIA's soundtrack was tough to get a hold of. However, I was blessed enough to find a brand-new, factory-sealed copy on Amazon for Christmas, and I'm pleased to be sharing this long-unheard version of FANTASIA with the YouTube community.
