Justin Rattner 'Future of Television' Intel Developers Conference Keynote

Richard Hart of KGO Television saw HDI Ltd's., demonstration of their laser-driven 3D TV technology and stated, Take it from me, weve seen RealD, Dolby, Film, all kinds of 3D and this is the smoothest yet. And smoothness means no headaches. See his video report here: abclocal.go.com Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers, who can be seen in the video footage of Richards report, reacts to the demo of the HDI Ltd., laser 3D TV by stating: Without a doubt, this is the best demonstration of 3D technology I have ever seen. When Justin Rattner, CTO of Intel saw this KGO report, he had his personal assistant contact me immediately and personally invited the chief technology directors, Edmund Sandberg, Chief Technology Officer and Chris Stuart, Director of Technologies, to present HDI Ltd., at the Intel Developers Conference, during Justins keynote address, The Future of Television. This is the video of the HDI Segment from that conference keynote.

Microsoft 2011 BUILD Developer Conference Steven Sinofsky Presentation Part 1

Go to www.technomicon.com for our full article on the BUILD conference. In this first part of Sinofsky's keynote at the BUILD conference, he presents an overview of Windows 8. Windows 8 features the new touch-enabled Metro interface, a dramatic departure from the traditional desktop user interface. Metro makes extensive use of dynamically updating tiles similar to Windows Phone 7, and is optimized for touch screens, although it can be used with a keyboard and mouse. MS is betting that touch screens will be universal for both desktop and mobile devices, in contrast with Apple. Windows 8 is something of a one-size-fits-all approach, in which all hardware platforms, desktop, laptop, and tablet, are required to support the full Win 8 OS, with built in support for the conventional Windows desktop. It remains to be seen whether this is really viable for ultra low power ARM devices, which don't have the computing power of even Intel Atoms. ARM development for Win 8 appears to be lagging, and most of the demos were run on Intel based systems.

Go to www.technomicon.com for our full article on the BUILD conference. Steven is joined by Antoine Leblond for a demonstration of application building using the new Visual Studio tools for Windows 8. Along with a new API architecture, Visual Studio allows developers to create apps using HTML 5 and javascript. Visual Studio also provides automatic compatibility with all platforms supported by Windows 8, Intel or ARM. This doesn't include Windows 7 Phone, however, but code is very portable since Win7P also supports app creation using HTML 5 and JavaScript.

Go to www.technomicon.com for our full article on the BUILD conference. Steven is joined by Mike Angiulo for a demonstration and discussion of the range of hardware supporting Windows 8. This hardware includes desktops, all-in-ones, tablets, both Intel and ARM based. Win 8 ARM development appears to be lagging however, as most of the demonstrations were on Intel processors. Towards the end of the presentation, they announced the give-away of 5000 Samsung tablets to the developers, running Win8 developer preview and equiped with a full suite of developer tools. Once again, this tablet ran a second generation Intel Core i5 processor.

Microsoft 2011 Financial Analyst Meeting (FAM) Steve Ballmer Presentation Part 1

Go to www.technomicon.com for our full article on the FAM. First half hour of Ballmer's presentation at the FAM. This year's FAM, combined with the BUILD developer conference is mostly about Windows 8 and the slick new Metro touch-based interface. Metro is combined with a more traditional Windows desktop, allowing Win8 to work on both tablets and desktops, using Intel and ARM processors. Microsoft (and Ballmer) are betting that users will want touch everywhere, not just on tablets, and maybe they will. But just as Metro is on all Win 8 installations, so is the traditional Windows desktop capability (mouse and keyboard) and burdening low power ARM tablets with the capability to run the normal Windows desktop may not be a good idea. ARM development for Win8 seems to be lagging, and most of the demos were on Intel based machines.
