The Second day of the third phase of the drills dubbed Defenders of Velayat Sanctuaries 3 started on Wednesday September 14. Planes were dispatched from around the country to Shahid Fakouri military airbase and test ammunition was used in the first and second phases. Live ammunition was used in the third phase. F-4, F-5 and Sukhoi 24 successfully destroyed various dummy mobile and fixed targets on the first day. Iran has test-fired a surface-to-surface cruise missile in a naval drill, after the country threatened to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the passageway for one-sixth of the world's oil supply.
