Airship to Orbit (ATO). JPAerospace
"Airspace to Orbit" JP-Aerospace is a private company striving to make access to space easier and cheaper, by using balloons. A smaller helium/hydrogen filled, propeller powered vehicle (much like a blimp) will takeoff from Earth with passengers/cargo and ascend to 140000 feet altitude. It will then dock with a 2 mile wide high altitude base station (also filled with helium/hydrogen). A 6000 foot long ion-engine powered space-worthy balloon will then depart from the base station, gradually raising it's orbit over several days as it gradually picks up speed, until it has enough speed to escape Earth's orbit. Multiple vehicles must be used. The smaller ascender operates in Earth's atmosphere as it's skin is a lot thicker and tougher, but this makes it too heavy to be able to escape Earth's orbit. The larger orbiter has incredibly thin skin so that it is light enough to escape Earth's orbit as it gains speed, lightly skimming on the top of the atmosphere - the skin is so thin that it would get damaged by even moderate atmospheric winds. www.jpaerospace.com http en.wikipedia.org

Armadillo Aerospace Stiga rocket launch and onboard video
The launch of Armadillo Aerospace's reusable suborbital sounding rocket Stiga. Fueled by liquid oxygen and denatured ethanol, the rocket reached close to 140000 feet above sea level. The rocket was launched from Spaceport America on December 4 2011 at around 11:30AM. There were some dents on landing, but the rocket can be refurbished for a second flight. "Stiga" is Swedish for ascend or soar.

Variable-Pitch Quadrotor Trajectory Generation and Control
Trajectory generation and control for a variable-pitch quadrotor helicopter developed at MIT's Aerospace Controls Lab. The variable-pitch propellers allow for more aggressive maneuvers and aerobatics than possible with typical fixed-pitch quadrotors. The piston is typically driven by an oscillating magnetic field that is the source of the power needed to drive the refrigeration cycle. A small scale test of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generator. The generator pulls electrical power out of a rocket engine. This goes on the end our quad rocket engine. It allows us to run the engine in two modes. One for thrust and the other for power generation.

The Global 5000 jet, which is on static display for the entire show, is part of Qatar Executive's wholly-owned Bombardier fleet of six long-range business jets. Qatar Executive's ultra-long Global 5000 aircraft has 13 seats and a comfortable two cabin configuration - forward cabin with four seats and a four place conference table. The rear cabin has two single seats, a three-person divan and private aft lavatory. The aircraft is equipped with large monitors, surround sound and communications equipment, as well as Wi-fi connection, making it a true "office in the sky". Escape Vehicle No 6, Simon Faithfull, 2004 (The Arts Catalyst)
Simon Faithfulls Escape Vehicle no.6 started as a live event commissioned by The Arts Catalyst for its 2004 Artists Airshow. The live audience witnessed the launching of a weather balloon with a domestic chair dangling in space beneath it. Once the apparatus had disappeared into the sky, they then watched a live video relay from the weather balloon on a giant screen as it journeyed from the ground to the edge of space (30km up). Now presented as a non-live video work, the footage shows the chair first rush away from the fields and roads, ascend through clouds and finally (against the curvature of the earth and the blackness of space) begin to disintegrate. The chilling nature of the film is that the empty chair invites the audience to imagine taking a journey to an uninhabitable realm where it is impossible to breath, the temperature is minus 60 below and the sky now resembles the blackness of space.
